The discography of Jars of Clay, a multi-stylistic American rock and Christian band from Nashville, Tennessee consists of 12 studio albums, 44 singles, 16 extended plays, two major compilation albums, a part-studio, part-live double-album, a live DVD, and several releases of other types. ''Who We Are Instead'' is the fifth full-length studio album recorded by Christian rock band Jars of Clay and produced by Mitch Dane. It was released in 2003 by Essential Records. Representing their most acoustic-based since their first disc, ''Who We Are Instead'' is the band's most relaxed-sounding material to date. The stripped-down sound accompanied a more direct focus on their spirituality, with gospel influences apparent in some of the songs and the names of God and Jesus being more explicitly mentioned throughout the disc. Guitarist Steve Mason proved to be rather versatile on this album, with several songs featuring either the lap steel or mandolin. Tucker Martine
Tucker Martine (born January 14, 1972) is an American record producer, musician and composer. In 2010, ''Paste'' Magazine included Martine in their list of the 10 Best Producers of the Decade. Early life Tucker Martine, the son of singer and songwriter Layng Martine Jr., grew up in Nashville, Tennessee where he played in bands and tinkered with recording devices before moving to Boulder, Colorado upon graduating from high school. In Colorado, Martine was a DJ at a public radio station KGNU. He would frequently play two or more records at once on the air. Martine also took courses at the Naropa Institute where he studied sound collage and befriended Harry Smith - the ethnomusicologist, artist and Kabbalist - who made a large impression on Martine. Much Afraid
''Much Afraid'' is the second studio album by American Christian rock band Jars of Clay. It was released in 1997 by Essential Records. Following the charting success of the band's debut album, ''Much Afraid'' was moderately successful, but was unable to achieve the level of its predecessor. Background The title is a reference to Hannah Hurnard's 1955 novel '' Hinds' Feet on High Places'', whose main character was named Much Afraid. The album marked various musical and lyrical differences to its predecessor. "Fade to Grey" and " Frail" were both previously from the group's demo recording '' Frail'' in 1994. All other tracks from that demo were recorded for the debut album '' Jars of Clay'' in 1995.
