The Fourth Texas Legislature met from November 3, 1851 to February 7, 1853 in its regular session and one called session. Edward Burleson
Edward Burleson (December 15, 1798 – December 26, 1851) was the third vice president of the Republic of Texas. After Texas was annexed to the United States, he served in the State Senate. Prior to his government service in Texas, he was a commander of Texian Army forces during the Texas Revolution. Before moving to Texas, he served in militias in Alabama, Missouri, and Tennessee, and fought in the War of 1812. Burleson was the soldier who was given Santa Anna's sword when he surrendered. Early life Known as the "Old Indian Fighter", Burleson was a veteran of the War of 1812 and had served in the Missouri and Texas militias. In October 1835 he was appointed a lieutenant colonel in the Texas army and served under Stephen F. Austin in the opening stages of the Texas Revolution. During the Siege of Béxar, Burleson served as the second-in-command to Gen. Stephen Reaves (politician)
Stephen Reaves (born December 5, 1984) is a former professional Canadian football quarterback. He was signed by the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a street free agent in 2009 but was released at the end of training camp. He was re-signed to the practice roster on June 27, 2009. He played college football for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the Michigan State Spartans. College career Reaves start his career as a redshirt freshman at Michigan State. In the 2003 season Reaves did not play a down and learn from starting quarterback Jeff Smoker. In 2004, Reaves played his first game against Central Michigan in the second game of the season. He played in four games in 2004. It end up being his last year at Michigan State due to driving while under the influence of alcohol. Michigan State University took away his scholarship. Adolphus Sterne
Nicholas Adolphus Sterne (April 5, 1801 – March 27, 1852) served three terms in the Texas House of Representatives and one term in the Texas State Senate. He immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1817, living in Louisiana for ten years. In 1826, he moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, where he operated a mercantile and smuggled weapons for the colonist who wished to rebel against Mexico. His position as a Freemason helped save him from a death sentence, and Sterne went on to finance the two companies of men known as the New Orleans Greys, to assist in fighting in the Texas Revolution. Early years Adolphus Sterne, the eldest son of Emmanuel Sterne and his second wife, Helen, was born on April 5, 1801, in Cologne, although Alsace is also claimed as his birthplace.
