Fortaleza Air Force Base
Base Aérea de Fortaleza – BAFZ is a base of the Brazilian Air Force, located in Fortaleza, Brazil. It shares some facilities with Pinto Martins International Airport. History Belém Air Force Base has its origins on the 6th Aviation Regiment created on 15 May 1933. The Air Force Base was created on 22 May 1941 by Decree 3,302. Units Since January 2017 there are no permanent flying units assigned to Fortaleza Air Force Base. Whenever needed, the aerodrome is used as a support facility to other air units of the Brazilian Air Force, Navy and Army. Fortaleza (, locally , Portuguese for ''Fortress'') is the state capital of Ceará, located in Northeastern Brazil. It belongs to the Metropolitan mesoregion of Fortaleza and microregion of Fortaleza. Ceará (, pronounced locally as or ) is one of the 26 states of Brazil, located in the northeastern part of the country, on the Atlantic coast. Fortaleza-Pinto Martins International Airport is the international airport serving Fortaleza, Brazil. It is named after ''Euclides Pinto Martins'' (1892–1924) a Ceará-born aviator, who in 1922 was one of the pioneers of the air-link between New York City and Rio de Janeiro. The airport is operated by Fraport Brasil. Some facilities are shared with Fortaleza Air Force Base. History The airport had its origins on a runway built in the 1930s and used by Ceará Flying School until 2000. During World War II, the airport was an important allied base supporting Southern Atlantic operations. Natal Air Force Base – ALA10 is a base of the Brazilian Air Force, located in Parnamirim, near Natal, Brazil. History Originally called Parnamirim Airport, this facility had an important role during World War II as a strategic base for aircraft flying between South America and West Africa. DAFIF () or the ''Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File'' is a comprehensive database of up-to-date aeronautical data, including information on airports, airways, airspaces, navigation data, and other facts relevant to flying in the entire world, managed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) of the United States. Withdrawal of public access DAFIF was publicly available until October 2006 through the Internet; however, it was closed to public access because "increased numbers of foreign source providers are claiming intellectual property rights or are forewarning NGA that they intend to copyright their source".
