Fort De Vancia
The Fort de Vancia is a former military installation built between 1872 and 1878 in the municipalities of Sathonay-Village and Rillieux-la-Pape, north of Lyon. It is part of the second belt Lyon and more generally the system Sere de Rivieres. This belt of forts included the forts of Bron, Vancia itself, Feyzin and Mont Verdun. History This pentagonal fort covers about 18 hectares. Located on the plateau and peak Vancia on Dombes to 332 meters, it is disposed between the height of Mont Verdun and Fort Meyzieu. It has been built primarily for the purpose of resisting German and Italian attack from Bourg-en-Bresse, but also in order to confine a potential revolt of the city of Lyon. Fort De Bron
The Fort de Bron is a fortification built between 1875 and 1877, located in the commune of Bron. It is part of the second belt of fortifications around Lyon, which also includes Fort de Vancia, Fort de Feyzin and Fort du Mont Verdun. History Its history is linked to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Indeed, as a result of the Treaty of Frankfurt which ended the 1870 war, France lost Alsace and Lorraine, reducing its borders. To ensure the defence of Lyon, it built a strong cordon of forts encircling the city to the east, which included the forts of Bron, Vancia, Feyzin and Mont Verdun. These forts were equipped with significant amounts of artillery with all the hardware, staff, and powder storage that this then entailed. When a defensive reorganization occurred in France in 1874, the commune of Bron was therefore included in the crown of detached forts, to protect the stronghold of Lyon. Fort De Feyzin
The Fort Feyzin is a fort built between 1875 and 1877 in Feyzin. It is one of the forts of the second belt of forts around Lyon and more generally the Séré de Rivières fort system. This belt of forts included the forts of Bron, Vancia, Feyzin and Mont Verdun. It currently houses a riding stable managed by the UCPA on behalf of the city of Feyzin. Characteristics Located above sea level, it covers a wide area: 22 000 square meters built on 26 wooded hectares, located near the center of Feyzin-le-haut and the ''Trois cerisiers'' recreational center. Fort Du Mont Verdun
Fort Mont Verdun is the biggest highlight of the second belt of Forts around Lyon and is the only one considered to be a mountain fort. It rests at 630 meters altitude, dominating Lyon, Limonest, the lower Azergues valley and the Saône valley. It was covered by a low battery and four other associated batteries: Mont Thou, Les Carrières, Narcel and La Freta. It is now occupied by the Airbase 942 Lyon-Mont Verdun. This belt of forts included the forts of Bron, Vancia, Fort de Feyzin and Fort du Mont Verdun itself. History Work began in 1874 and the barracks were strengthened in 1886 by special concrete. A pentagon, the fort is surrounded by covered trench caponnières. The entrance to the fort is via a Pont Dormant extended by an overhead crane.
