''Fort Ti'' is a 1953 American 3-D Western film directed by William Castle, and starring George Montgomery and Joan Vohs. Written by Robert E. Kent, the film is the first Western to be released in 3-D and the first 3-D feature to be released in Technicolor by a major studio. ''Fort Ti'' was distributed by Columbia Pictures in the United States. The film is set in 1759 at Fort Ticonderoga during the French and Indian War. William Castle
William Castle (born William Schloss Jr.; April 24, 1914 – May 31, 1977) was an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Orphaned at 11, Castle dropped out of high school at 15 to work in the theater. He came to the attention of Columbia Pictures for his talent for promotion and was hired. He learned the trade of filmmaking and became a director, acquiring a reputation for the ability to churn out competent B-movies quickly and on budget. He eventually struck out on his own, producing and directing thrillers, which, despite their low budgets, he effectively promoted using gimmicks, a trademark for which he is best known. Robert Rogers (7 November 1731 – 18 May 1795) was an American colonial frontiersman. Rogers served in the British army during both the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. During the French and Indian War, Rogers raised and commanded the famous Rogers' Rangers, trained for raiding and close combat behind enemy lines. The Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy team active from 1922 until 1970, best remembered for their 190 short subject films by Columbia Pictures. Their hallmark styles were physical farce and slapstick. A remake by Warner Bros. of their 1933 film '' Mystery of the Wax Museum'', it stars Vincent Price as a disfigured sculptor who repopulates his destroyed wax museum by murdering people and using their wax-coated remains as displays. The film premiered in New York on April 10, 1953, and had a general release on April 25, making it the first 3D film with stereophonic sound to be presented in a regular theater and the first color 3D feature film from a major American studio (Columbia Pictures' '' Man in the Dark'', the first major-studio black-and-white 3D feature, premiered two days before ''House of Wax''). Milton Lowell Gunzburg (1910 – April 6, 1991) was an American journalist and screenwriter. Gunzburg developed the Natural Vision stereoscopic 3-D system. Career After pursuing his education at UCLA and Columbia University, Gunzburg became a Hollywood scriptwriter at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studio in the 1940s before abandoning the business to focus on the development of 3D filming in the 1950s. While watching footage of home movies which he had filmed in 3D, he was inspired to pursue the development of a new 3D technique for the film industry. Along with his brother Julian, a Beverly Hills ophthalmologist, and cinematographer Friend Baker, he developed the Natural Vision 3D film system in 1951, attracting the attentions of Arch Oboler who used it in his film ''Bwana Devil''.
