Former New York Life Insurance Company Building
108 Leonard, formerly known as 346 Broadway, the New York Life Insurance Company Building, and the Clock Tower Building, is a residential structure in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City, United States. Built from 1894 to 1898, the building was constructed for the New York Life Insurance Company. Stephen Decatur Hatch created the original plans while McKim, Mead & White oversaw the building's completion. The building occupies a city block bounded by Broadway to the west, Leonard Street to the north, Lafayette Street to the east, and Catherine Lane to the south. It is a New York City designated landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The exterior is largely made of marble, and each elevation of the facade is divided vertically into multiple bays. 359 Broadway is a building on the west side of Broadway between Leonard and Franklin Streets in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It was built in 1852 and was designed by the firm of Field & Correja in the Italianate style. The top three floors of the building were used by pioneering photographer Mathew Brady as a portrait studio from 1853 to 1859, where he photographed many famous Americans. On the south side of the building a faded painted sign for Mathew Brady's Studio could once be seen by pedestrians on Broadway, but this was painted over before 1990. The building was purchased by brothers Mark Tennenbaum and Emil Tanner and their brother-in-law Leo Beller in 1943. The building stands on the east side of Church Street, between Thomas Street and Worth Street. The building is an example of the Brutalist architectural style. It is a telephone exchange or wire center building which contained three major 4ESS switches used for interexchange ( long distance) telephony, as well as a number of other switches used for competitive local exchange carrier services. 319 Broadway, also known as the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Home Office, is a five-story office building on the corner of Broadway and Thomas Street in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It is a cast-iron building in the Italianate architecture style, built in 1869–70 and designed by D. & J. Jardine. It is the lone survivor of a pair of buildings at 317 and 319 which were known as the "Thomas Twins". The cast iron for these mirror-twin buildings was provided by Daniel D.
