Forbidden Places (TV Series)
''Forbidden Places'' is a Canadian television documentary series, which aired on Discovery Channel from 1995 to 1998. Narrated by Anthony Sherwood, the series profiled the science behind complex systems. It was one of the first new series aired by the channel at its launch in January 1995, and the highest-rated original program on the network in its first year. Episodes of the series included "The Professionals", which visited a firefighter training school; "Wildkill", about the illegal poaching and smuggling of animal parts; "Unauthorized Access", about the phenomenon of computer fraud; "Zone of Separation", about the Canadian peacekeeping mission in the Yugoslav Wars; "Silent Witness", about the role of forensic science in criminal justice; and "Crash Course", profiling the work of airplane crash investigators. Gemini Awards
The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. First held in 1986 to replace the ACTRA Award, the ceremony celebrated Canadian television productions with awards in 87 categories, along with other special awards such as lifetime achievement awards. The Academy had previously presented the one-off Bijou Awards in 1981, inclusive of some television productions. In April 2012, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced that the Gemini Awards and the Genie Awards would be discontinued and replaced by a new award ceremony dedicated to all forms of Canadian media, including television, film, and digital media, dubbed the "Canadian Screen Awards". ''The Guardian'' is a daily newspaper published six days a week in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The paper was originally launched in the 1870s as ''The Presbyterian and Evangelical Protestant Union'', owned by Presbyterian minister Stephen G. Lawson. It adopted its current name in 1887. After a succession of local owners, the newspaper was bought by Thomson Corporation in the 1950s. Southam Newspapers acquired the paper from Thomson in 1996, before being itself acquired by Canwest Global Communications in 2000.
