''For Your Ears Only/On Air'' (formerly ''Newsweek on Air'') was a weekly radio program and podcast previously produced by Newsweek, Inc. and co-produced with RKO Radio Networks, Associated Press, Jones Radio Networks, and Triton Media Group, then an independent, non-profit project of the New York Foundation for the Arts and distributed by the Radio America network. It debuted on April 25, 1982, with its main producer-anchor David M. Alpern, a reporter, writer, then senior editor at Newsweek, who was at the helm during the program's 32-year run. The weekend program aired Saturday nights or Sundays. The non-profit version acquired the "For Your Ears Only" title in June 2010. The program ended its 32-year run with the September 28, 2014, broadcast, after which the non-profit Internet Archive (archive.org) began posting its broadcasts back to 1982 as an online audio collection. ''Newsweek'' is an American weekly online news magazine co-owned 50 percent each by Dev Pragad, its president and CEO, and Johnathan Davis (businessman), Johnathan Davis, who has no operational role at ''Newsweek''. Founded as a weekly print magazine in 1933, it was widely distributed during the 20th century, and had many notable editors-in-chief. RKO Radio Network
The RKO Radio Network, a subsidiary of RKO General, was the first commercial radio network to distribute programming entirely by satellite. When it began operations on October 1, 1979, the initial RKO network was the first new full-service American radio network in 40 years. Satellite distribution allowed high-fidelity (15 kHz) stereo programming to its affiliates. News and programming The newscasts, aimed at a young adult audience, had a conversational, high-energy style developed by co-founders Vice President and News Director Dave Cooke, and Vice President of Programming Jo Interrante. Triton Digital, LLC, formerly Triton Media Group, is a digital audio technology and advertising company based in Los Angeles. The group was formally owned by E. W. Scripps Company which sold Triton to IHeartMedia in October 2020.
