Football In Yemen
Football in Yemen is run by the Yemen Football Association. The association administers the Yemen national football team, as well as the Yemeni League. Football (soccer) is the most popular sport in Yemen. The Yemen national football team competes in the FIFA and AFC leagues. The country also hosts many football clubs that compete nationally and internationally. Yemen hosted the 20th Arabian Gulf Cup in Aden in 2010. Yemen was thought to be the strongest competitor, but was defeated in the first three rounds. The development of football in Yemen is often thought to be held by back many of Yemen's internal problems such as terrorist attack threats, political tension between the North and South, an unstable economy, and a high illiteracy rate. Yemen National Football Team
The Yemen national football team ( ar, منتخب اليمن الوطني لكرة القدم), is the national team of Yemen and is controlled by the Yemen Football Association. When the nation was split into North Yemen and South Yemen before 1990, two national teams existed. After unification, the Yemen national football team is considered the successor of the North Yemen national football team. 20th Arabian Gulf Cup
The 20th Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, كأس الخليج العربي) was the twentieth edition of the biannual Gulf Cup competition, and took place in Aden, Yemen, from 22 November to 5 December 2010. The tournament was held in Yemen for the first time in the tournament's history, and this edition celebrated the 40th anniversary of the cup as well as the 20th anniversary of the tournament. The opening match was played between the host Yemen and Saudi Arabia at the 22 May Stadium in Aden. Kuwait won the tournament for the tenth time in the team's history, against 2-time consecutive second-place finishers, Saudi Arabia in a 1–0 score that ended with extra time. The Asian Football Confederation is the governing body of association football, beach soccer, and futsal in some countries/territories in Asia and Oceania.
