The sport of football in the country of East Timor is run by the Federação de Futebol de Timor-Leste. The association administers the national football team as well as the former national league system the Super Liga. The current top league competition is the Liga Futebol Amadora, containing 21 teams in total. This consists of a two division system, with the Primeira Divisaun as the top division in the nation followed by the Segunda Divisaun. The current annual national cup competition is the Taça 12 de Novembro Taça 12 de Novembro is an annual knockout association football competition in men's domestic Timor football. The East Timor Football Federation ( pt, Federação de Futebol de Timor-Leste - FFTL) is the governing body of football in East Timor. Timor-Leste National Football Team
The Timor-Leste national football team is the national team of East Timor () and is controlled by the Federação de Futebol de Timor-Leste. They joined FIFA on 12 September 2005. Timor-Leste's international debut was in the preliminary round of the 2004 AFC Asian Cup qualification in March 2003, when they lost 3–2 to Sri Lanka and 3–0 to Chinese Taipei. They also participated in the 2004 AFF Championship. Timor-Leste's participation in Southeast Asia's premier international football event in 2004 was announced after an Asian Football Confederation council meeting in Petaling Jaya. Although not yet a member of the AFC, the Timor-Leste Football Association was invited to sit in on the meeting, where they were represented by FA president Francia Kalbuadi. The National Stadium of East Timor ( pt, Estádio Nacional de Timor-Leste, tet, Stadion Nasional Timor Lorosa'e), also known as the Municipal Stadium of Dili ( pt, Estádio Municipal de Díli, links=no, tet, Estadiu Munisipal Díli, links=no), is a multi-purpose stadium in Dili, East Timor. The stadium has a capacity of 5,000 and is used mostly for football matches. Taça 12 de Novembro is an annual knockout association football competition in men's domestic Timor football. This competition was organised by Liga Futebol Amadora and FFTL. Competition format Beginning in August, the competition proceeds as a knockout tournament throughout, consisting of three rounds, a semi-final and then a final, in September. Liga Futebol Amadora Segunda Divisão (often referred to as the LFA Segunda Divisão) is second-highest division of the Liga Futebol Amadora and second-highest overall in the Timorense football league system. Liga Futebol Amadora Primeira Divisão (often referred to as the LFA Primeira Divisão) is the highest division of the Liga Futebol Amadora and the highest overall in the Timorense football league system. The league is not fully professional. History The Liga Futebol Amadora Primera Divisão started from the 2016 season and replaced Super Liga Timorense as the top tier league in Timor Leste. Liga Futebol Amadora
Liga Futebol Timor-Leste (LFTL) is a league competition featuring football clubs from Timor Leste. It replaced Super Liga Timorense in 2015. The competition initially consisted of two main divisions, the Primeira Divisão and Segunda Divisão, however was expanded to include a third division in 2019. As of 2020 the winner of the previous Premeria Divisão season represents Timor Leste in the AFC Cup. In 2020 the name of the competition was renamed from the Liga Futebol Amadora to the Liga Futebol Timor-Leste. The league did not run however due to the COVID pandemic, with the teams set to compete in the Pimeira and Segunda Divisão instead competing in the Copa FFTL.
