Football At The Far Eastern Games
Football at Far Eastern Championship Games was the only major international football competition in Asia pre-World War II. It was contested by China, Japan and the Philippines, with the Dutch East Indies joining the last edition of the tournament in 1934. Although the Philippines won the first tournament, China achieved nine consecutive victories from the second tournament to the tenth tournament. In the 9th tournament, Japan and China lined up side by side, but due to discussions between the two sides, it was decided that no rematch would be held, and both teams were treated as winners. Takeo Wakabayashi
was a Japanese football player. He played for Japan national team. Club career Wakabayashi was born in Hyogo Prefecture on 29 August 1907. He played for his local club Kobe Icchu Club was consisted of his alma mater high school players and graduates. At the club, he won 1927 Emperor's Cup with Tadao Takayama and so on. National team career In May 1930, when Wakabayashi was a Tokyo Imperial University student, he was selected Japan national team for 1930 Far Eastern Championship Games in Tokyo and Japan also won the championship. At this competition, on 25 May, he debuted and scored 4 goals against Philippines. He was the first player in Japan national team to score a hat-trick in debut. The same feat would be achieved 80 years later by Sota Hirayama. On 29 May, he also played against Republic of China. He played 2 games and scored 4 goals for Japan in 1930. Lee Wai Tong
Lee Wai Tong (; 16 October 1905 – 4 July 1979) was a Hong Kong and Chinese international association football player, head coach, and former Vice President of FIFA. He is often regarded as the greatest Chinese footballer due to his accomplishments in winning several Far Eastern Games titles with the national team of the Republic of China as well as captaining the national football squad to their first ever Olympic tournament in 1936, which was held in Berlin. This was also followed by having an extremely successful club career with the Hong Kong club South China where he won eight league titles with them, helping establish the club as the most successful team in the territory's history at the time. After his retirement, he moved into management where he guided the national men's football team of the Republic of China (which later played as Taiwan and Chinese Taipei) to win the 1954 Asian Games.
