Darwin Beer Can Regatta
The Darwin Beer Can Regatta is a festival event which has been held annually since 1974 in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia at Mindil Beach. The inaugural event had 63 entries and was attended by about 22,000 people which was about half of Darwin's population at the time. Format Participants create boats using empty beer cans, soft drink (soda) cans, soft drink bottle and milk cartons. Up to 30,000 cans have been used for a single boat. The vessels are not tested for seaworthiness, prior to water events, and those that fall apart are part of the day's entertainment. A great many sundry events go along with the regatta, including concerts, sandcastles, a thong-throwing contest and the "Henley-on-Mindil" competition (named after the Henley-on-Todd Regatta), where participants run their "boats" around like ''Flintstones'' cars. Taste Festival
The Taste of Tasmania is Tasmania's largest food and wine festival. Established in 1988, the Festival operates from 28 December–3 January and will celebrate its 32nd year in 2022. The festival is held in Hobart's Salamanca Place and waterfront precinct. The festival was run by the City of Hobart. History In 2019, the council reduced funding for the festival, and approved a funding deal over three-years of $3 million.The funding was $1.1 million in 2019-20, $1 million in 2020-21, and was to be $900,000 in 2021-22.The shortfall was filled by increased funding from the state government, and also covered the leasing of the venue, Princes Wharf No1. The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, run by Food and Wine Victoria Ltd. is an event held in March annually since 1993 to promote Melbourne and Victoria's food and wine culture. Operating on a not-for-profit basis, the festival's charter is to promote the produce, talent and lifestyle of Melbourne and Victoria, and to promote Melbourne as the "food and wine capital of Australia". Grampians Grape Escape
Grampians Grape Escape is one of the longest running food and wine festivals in Australia and a hallmark event for Victoria. It was launched in 1992. Held in the Grampians National Park at Halls Gap during the first weekend of May every year, the Grampians Grape Escape provides food and wine offerings by more than 100 local artisan producers, live music and family entertainment. The Good Food & Wine Show is Australia's largest consumer exhibition. It showcases cuisine matches and celebrity chefs. The event is staged annually in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. The Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival is an annual event in Brisbane, Australia. It was founded in 1994 by the Caxton Street Development Association to promote Caxton Street, in historic Petrie Terrace, as an area for Australian music, food and drink, plus art and history. The area is near to the Suncorp Stadium and the Brisbane central business district. The festival was held annually on the Sunday of the Labour Day long weekend in May, until 2013; since 2014, it has been held on the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June.
