Fongshan District
Fongshan District, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency () is a district located in southern Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Fongshan is one of the administrative centers of Kaohsiung and is home to the Republic of China Military Academy. There are three military units currently located in Fongshan. Both the Republic of China Military Academy and R.O.C. Army Infantry School came to Taiwan from mainland China and were re-established here in 1950. Chung Cheng Armed Forces Preparatory School was established in 1976. These three units used to be the main economic driving force, but their importance diminished gradually as Fongshan has established itself as a conjunction between Pingtung City and Kaohsiung. Although there are several industrial zones at the outskirts of the city, the major lifestyle in Fongshan seems to be very residential. Former Japanese Navy Fongshan Communication Center
The Former Japanese Navy Fongshan Communication Center () was one of the three radio stations operated in Taiwan by the former Imperial Japanese Navy located in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The radio station was built in 1919, the first to be constructed in Taiwan by the Imperial Japanese Navy. Despite the military nature of the station, it was primarily used for civilian communication. After a major mechanical failure threatened maritime safety, the Japanese built another radio station at Sankaiseki (Sankuaico) and consolidated it with the Hozan (Fongshan) station into the Takao Communication Unit in 1937. When the Second Sino-Japanese War broke out soon after, the Takao Communication Unit was used to maintain the south west Pacific communications of the Empire of Japan. The Republic of China Military Academy () is the service academy for the army of the Republic of China, located in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung. Previously known as the the military academy produced commanders who fought in many of China's conflicts in the 20th century, notably the Northern Expedition, the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War. The military academy was officially opened on May 1, 1924, under the Kuomintang (KMT), but the first lessons began on June 16, 1924. The inauguration was on Changzhou Island offshore from the Whampoa (Huangpu) dock in Guangzhou, thus earning its name. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks.
