Fogo Opening Tournament
The Fogo Island Opening Tournament (Portuguese: ''Torneio de Abertura do Fogo'', Capeverdean Crioulo, ALUPEC or ALUPEK: ''Turnéu di Abertura du Fogo''), is an opening tournament competition (equivalent to a league cup) played during the season in the island of Fogo, Cape Verde The competition is organized by the Fogo Regional Football Association. The winner with the most points (sometimes in the final) is the winner. The first edition took place in 2001 and Botafogo was the first winner, Cutelinho was the second winner won in 2002. Since 2006, no competitions of the opening tournament/association cup has taken place. Cutelinho FC
Cutelinho Futebol Clube is a professional football club that currently plays in the Fogo Island League in Cape Verde. It is based in the village of Mosteiros in the northeastern part of the island and plays in the stadium with a capacity of 1000. Its current manager is Amarildo Baessa. Its nickname is ''leoninhos'' which means ''little lions'' in Portuguese. On September 2, 1996, the team faced Desportivo de Cova Figueira for the first time and defeated that club 3–1 in the opening tournament. History The club was founded on October 8, 1983. The Fogo Regional Football Association (Portuguese: ''Associação Regional de Futebol do Fogo'', abbreviation: ''ARFF'') is a football (soccer) association covering the island of Fogo. The Fogo Premier Division is a tier-2 regional championship played in Fogo Island, Cape Verde. The competition are organized by the Fogo Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol do Fogo, ARFF). The winner of the championship plays in the Cape Verdean football Championships of each season while the last placed club relegates and participates in the Second Division in the following season.
