Florian Floto
Florian Floto (born 12 April 1988) is a German male recurve archer from Braunschweig and part of the German national team. He has competed internationally since the 2008 European Indoor Championships in Turin. There, he finished in 6th place individually and won the silver medal with the German team. In 2010, Floto won Gold with the German team at the European Championships in Rovereto, in the individual competition he finished in fourth place. He won the gold medal at the 2016 World Indoor Archery Championships in the men's team event and represented Germany at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where he finished in 9th place. In Rio, Floto lost 4–6 in the round of 16 against eventual gold medalist Ku Bon-chan. Archery At The 2016 Summer Olympics
The archery events at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were held over a seven-day period from 6 to 12 August. Four events took place, all were staged at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí. Competition format A total of 128 athletes compete across the four events: the men's individual, women's individual, men's team and women's team. All four events were recurve archery events, held under the World Archery-approved 70-meter distance and rules. The competition started with an initial ranking round involving all 64 archers of each gender. Each archer would shoot a total of 72 arrows to be seeded from 1–64 according to their score. The ranking round was also used to seed the teams from 1 to 12, by aggregating the individual scores for the members of each team. Each event was played in a single-elimination tournament format, except for the semi-final losers, who would play off to decide the bronze medal winner. A Schützenverein (German for "marksmen's club") is a local voluntary association found in German-speaking countries revolving around shooting as a sport, often target shooting to Olympic rules or with historic weapons. Although originating as a town militia, a Schützenverein has no military aspects and in many cases often has a more social than sporting purpose. Origins These associations originated in late medieval autonomous towns as a form of citizens' militia principally to defend the town. Ku Bon-chan ( or ; born 31 January 1993) is a South Korean recurve archer. He won an individual and a team gold medal at the 2016 Olympics and two team gold medals at the 2015 World Championships. Career He made his international debut at the 2014 Archery World Cup after having participated in numerous Asian competitions prior. Ku competed in the individual recurve event, team recurve event, and recurve mixed team event at the 2015 World Archery Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he took home gold medals in the team recurve event and recurve mixed team event. Ku represented South Korea in the men's team archery event and men's individual archery event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. World Archery Federation
The World Archery Federation (WA, also and formerly known as FITA from the French ''Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc'') is the governing body of the sport of archery. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is composed of 156 national federations and other archery associations, and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee. History FITA was founded on 4 September 1931 in Lwow, Poland (today Lviv, Ukraine). Its seven founding member states were France, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Poland, the United States, Hungary, and Italy.
