Woke On A Whaleheart
''Woke on a Whaleheart'' is the first record released by Bill Callahan under his own name instead of his ''nom de plume'' Smog. It was released by Drag City on April 24, 2007, and released a week earlier in Callahan's home state of Texas. A single, "Diamond Dancer," preceded the release of the album on March 20, 2007. The arrangements of labelmate and former Royal Trux vocalist and guitarist Neil Michael Hagerty are featured on the album, and Callahan's band consists of vocalist Deani Pugh-Flemmings, guitarist Pete Denton, violinist Elizabeth Warren, percussionist Thor Harris, bassist Steve Bernal, and keyboard/lap steel player Howard Draper. The album was recorded by Jeremy Lemos, who previously recorded the Smog albums '' Rain on Lens'' and ''Supper''. ''Kicking a Couple Around'' is an Extended play, EP by Bill Callahan (musician), Bill Callahan (also known as Smog). It was released on Drag City (record label), Drag City in April 1996 and re-released in Europe on Domino Records (UK), Domino in 2001. "Your New Friend" was recorded during a 1995 John Peel#Peel sessions, John Peel radio session. "Back in School," "I Break Horses," and "The Orange Glow of a Stranger's Living Room" were recorded by Steve Albini. In an interview, Callahan said that "I Break Horses" was written "to help a friend try to understand how a guy she had a one-night stand with could possibly not return her phone calls the next day or ever again." Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Joseph Will Oldham (born January 15, 1970) is an American singer-songwriter and actor. From 1993 to 1997, he performed and recorded in collaboration with dozens of other musicians under variations of Palace (Palace, Palace Flophouse, Palace Brothers, Palace Songs, and Palace Music). After briefly publishing music under his own name, in 1998 he adopted Bonnie "Prince" Billy as the name for most of his work. Early life and education Oldham was born on January 15, 1970, in Louisville, Kentucky. His mother, Joanne Lei Will Tafel Oldham, was a teacher and artist. His father, Joseph Collins Oldham, was an attorney and photographer. Oldham graduated from the J. Graham Brown School in 1988. He attended Brown University sporadically while pursuing a career as an actor, and living between Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Bloomington, Indiana. ''Ytilaer'' (stylized as ''YTI⅃AƎЯ'') is a studio album by American musician Bill Callahan (musician), Bill Callahan, released on October 14, 2022, by Drag City (record label), Drag City. It is the eighth solo studio album released under Callahan's own name, and his nineteenth overall when including LPs released as Smog. Recording The album was recorded by Mark Nevers at Arlyn Studios in Austin, Texas in January 2022. "Drainface", however, was recorded by Cooper Crain at Estuary Recording in Austin in December 2021. ''Gold Record'' is a studio album by American musician Bill Callahan (musician), Bill Callahan, released on September 4, 2020, by independent record label Drag City (record label), Drag City. It is the seventh studio album released under his own name, and eighteenth overall when including studio albums released as Smog (band), Smog. Background ''Gold Record'' was first announced on June 25, 2020. It was also announced that beginning on June 29, 2020, a new single would be released every week until the September 4, 2020, release date. Each weekly release was accompanied by a sketch drawn by Callahan. The sketches, which differed every week, were completed during preparations for a ''Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest'' tour.
