Burning Kingdom
''Burning Kingdom'' is the second Extended play, EP by Bill Callahan (musician), Bill Callahan (also known as Smog), released on Drag City (record label), Drag City in 1994 and later re-released in Europe on Domino Records (UK), Domino. "My Shell" is an electric version of the 1991 single of the same name. This EP is the first of two collaborations between Callahan and the drummer Ron Burns (musician), Ron Burns, as well as the beginning of his work with Cynthia Dall. She provided vocals to "Renée Died 1:45". Steven Zdybel played violin and Kim Osterwalder played cello, as she did on the ''Julius Caesar (album), Julius Caesar'' album. Smog (band)
Bill Callahan (born June 3, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who has also recorded and performed under the band name Smog. Callahan began working in the lo-fi genre, with home-made tape-albums recorded on four-track tape recorders. Later he began releasing albums with the label Drag City, to which he remains signed today. His work, in addition to lo-fi music, has encompassed apocalyptic folk and gothic country. Career Callahan started out as a highly experimental artist, using substandard instruments and recording equipment. His early songs lacked melodic structure and were clumsily played on poorly tuned guitars, resulting in the dissonant sounds on his self-released cassettes and debut album '' Sewn to the Sky''. Cynthia Dall (born Cynthia Meggin Loya) (March 12, 1971 – April 5, 2012), sometimes known as "Cindy Dall", was an American lo-fi musician and photographer. Dall also gained notoriety in the fanzine world of the 1990s for her frequent transgressive-styled cover shots and appearances in Lisa Carver's '' Rollerderby'' magazine. Dall was born in Roseville, California. She started recording and performing with then-boyfriend, Bill Callahan under his former moniker, Smog. She first appeared on the Smog song "Wine Stained Lips", which was a B-side to the 1994 "A Hit" 7" single. Dall went on to contribute vocals and guitar on the ''Burning Kingdom'' EP, '' Wild Love'', and '' The Doctor Came at Dawn'', and she toured with Smog in the US and Europe in 1995. In 1996, Dall released her first solo album, ''Untitled''. Domino Recording Company or simply Domino is a British independent record label based in London. There is also a wing of the label based in Brooklyn, New York that handles releases in the United States, as well as a German division called Domino Deutschland and a French division called Domino France. Lo-fi (also typeset as lofi or low-fi; short for low fidelity) is a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections in the context of a recording or performance are present, sometimes as a deliberate choice. The standards of sound quality (fidelity) and music production have evolved throughout the decades, meaning that some older examples of lo-fi may not have been originally recognized as such.
