The Flinn or O'Flinn were rulers within Gaelic Irelands medieval over-kingdom of Ulaid. The O'Flinn were the chiefs of the Ui Tuirtre, a people seated on the east side of the River Bann and Lough Neagh in what today is Northern Ireland's County Antrim. Gaelic Ireland ( ga, Éire Ghaelach) was the Gaelic political and social order, and associated culture, that existed in Ireland from the late prehistoric era until the early 17th century. It comprised the whole island before Anglo-Normans conquered parts of Ireland in the 1170s. Thereafter, it comprised that part of the country not under foreign dominion at a given time (i.e. the part beyond The Pale). For most of its history, Gaelic Ireland was a "patchwork" hierarchy of territories ruled by a hierarchy of kings or chiefs, who were chosen or elected through tanistry. Ryan Flinn (born April 20, 1980) is a Canadian professional former professional ice hockey winger who played with the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Flinn was known as an enforcer. He was drafted in the fifth round, 143rd overall by the New Jersey Devils, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Selected from the QMJHL Flinn accumulated over 200 penalty minutes in each of his four full seasons with the Titans, Halifax Mooseheads and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Michael Flinn
Michael Walter Flinn (22 October 1917 – 28 September 1983) was a British economic historian. Born into a middle-class family in Chorlton-on-Medlock, he was educated at William Hulme's Grammar School in Manchester, serving as an officer in the Royal Artillery during the Second World War. After the end of the war, Flinn took a history degree at the University of Manchester before spending two years as a grammar school teacher while writing a postgraduate dissertation in his spare time. In 1959, he began lecturing at the University of Edinburgh, writing an introductory school textbook for history in 1961, which was still in print at his death. He was awarded a D. Litt by Edinburgh in 1965, and two years later was appointed to a Personal Chair in Social History. Hugo Victor Flinn (8 September 1879 – 28 January 1943) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and businessman. He was born in Peel, Isle of Man in 1879, one of four children of Hugo Flinn, wholesale fish merchant with wide interests in Ireland and Liverpool, and his wife (Mary) Kate (née Condren or Condran). The family's residence alternated on a six-month basis between Arklow, County Wicklow, and Kinsale, County Cork, according to the seasonal nature of the fish trade.
