Château De Fleckenstein
Château de Fleckenstein is a ruined castle in the commune of Lembach, in the Bas-Rhin département of France. This fortress, built in the shape of 52 m long boat, has a long history. The castle was built on a sandstone summit in the Middle Ages. An ingenious system for collecting rainwater fed a cistern and a hoist allowed water and other loads to be moved to the upper floors. History A castle is known to have existed on the site in 1165. It is named after the Fleckenstein family, owners until 1720 when it passed to the Vitzthum d'Egersberg family. The family had had a lordship that consisted of four separate small territories in the Bas-Rhin département. In 1807, it passed to J.-L. Apffel and in 1812 to General Harty, baron of Pierrebourg (the French for Fleckenstein: ''stone town''). In 1919, it became the property of the French state. Albrecht Fleckenstein (3 March 1917 – 4 April 1992) was a German pharmacologist and physiologist best known for his discovery of calcium channel blockers. Life and career Albrecht Fleckenstein was born on 3 March 1917 in Aschaffenburg, Germany. He received his medical training in Würzburg and Vienna. In 1964, Fleckenstein reported on the inhibitory actions of prenylamine and verapamil on the physiological process of excitation–contraction coupling. This contributed to his discovery of calcium antagonists. Awards In 1986, Fleckenstein received the Ernst Jung Prize, awarded annually for excellence in biomedical sciences. Franz Fleckenstein
Franz Fleckenstein (8 June 1922 – 5 January 1996) was a German church musician, priest and composer. Life Born in Würzburg, Fleckenstein studied church music in Regensburg and after the war additionally theology. In 1950 he was ordained a catholic priest. Later he was chaplain in Miltenberg. From 1953 he was music prefect in Würzburg. From 1960 he was cathedral vicar at Würzburg Cathedral and from 1961 to 1971 at the Würzburg Cathedral. During this time he founded the and in 1967 he and his choirs organized the reopening of the Würzburg Cathedral. Josef Fleckenstein (18 February 1919 in Kämmeritz bei Querfurt - 4 November 2004 in Gottingen) was a German historian and essayist. His central field of research was the Middle Ages. Knut Fleckenstein (born 20 December 1953) is a German politician and former Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Germany. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, part of the Party of European Socialists. Kurt Fleckenstein (born December 5, 1949) is a German artist/sculptor associated with land art, minimal art and installation art. Fleckenstein was born in Heddesheim near Mannheim in Baden-Württemberg. His earlier career in landscape architecture, regional planning and horticultural art led to the establishment of several architectural studios in Germany, Austria and Poland.
