Fisk is an unincorporated community or ghost town in Adair County, Iowa, United States. History Fisk was established near the center of Richland Township. The first post office in Fisk was established in 1870. By 1901, Fisk was home to a creamery (the Blue Grass Creamery), a school, and the Fisk Post Office. However, with the introduction of Rural Free Delivery Rural Free Delivery (RFD) was a program of the United States Post Office Department that began in the late 19th century to deliver mail directly to rural destinations. Fisk University is a private historically black liberal arts college in Nashville, Tennessee. It was founded in 1866 and its campus is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1930, Fisk was the first African-American institution to gain accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Accreditations for specialized programs soon followed. The Fisk Generating Station, also known as Fisk Street Generating Station or Fisk Station is an inactive medium-size, coal-fired electric generating station located at 1111 West Cermak Road in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The Fisk Tire Company was an American tire company. It was a major force in the US tire industry from the late 1900s to late 1920s. History In 1898, the Spaulding and Pepper Co was sold to Noyes W. Fisk and renamed the Fisk Rubber Co. It employed more than 600 people in 1910 and more than 3,000 during World War I (with a weekly payroll averaging $48,000).
