There are 72 counties in the U.S. State of Wisconsin. The land that eventually became Wisconsin was transferred from British to American control with the 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris. It was an unorganized part of the Northwest Territory until 1802 when all of the land from St. Louis north to the Canadian border was organized as St. Clair County. When Illinois was admitted to the union in 1818, Wisconsin became part of the Territory of Michigan and divided into two counties: Brown County in the northeast along Lake Michigan and Crawford County in the southwest along the Mississippi River. Area code 920 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for a large area of eastern Wisconsin. It was created on July 26, 1997, in a split from area code 414, which formerly served the entire eastern third of the state. 920 is scheduled to be overlaid with area code 274 on May 5, 2023. In 2008, service providers recognized the need for a second area code for northeastern Wisconsin, leading the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to approve an overlay plan with new area code 274. However, the Great Recession, number porting, a decline in landlines, and other factors delayed that requirement for fifteen years during which implementation was deferred several times. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Utica, Winnebago County, Wisconsin
Utica (formerly Welaunee) is a town in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,299 at the 2010 census. The unincorporated communities of Elo, Fisk, and Pickett are located in the town. History The town's first European settlement was in 1846, the area then being part of the Town of Rushford, Wisconsin. Among the first known settlers were people named Leth, Harris, Armine Pickett, D. H. Nash, Lucius Hawley, E. B. Fish, J. M. Little and Hiram McKee. McKee, a Wesleyan Methodist was the first clergyman in town and held the first religious meeting. The first settlement was made on Liberty Prairie, in the central part of this township. Wittman Regional Airport is a county-owned public-use airport located two nautical miles (4 km) south of the central business district of Oshkosh, a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (formerly the EAA Annual Convention and Fly-In), or just Oshkosh, is an annual air show and gathering of aviation enthusiasts held each summer at Wittman Regional Airport and adjacent Pioneer Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, United States.
