Frank McDonald (director)
Frank Burgess McDonald (November 9, 1899 – March 8, 1980) was an American film and television director, active from 1935 to 1966. He directed more than 100 films, including many Westerns starring Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, and numerous TV show episodes. He is interred at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo, California. McDonald was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Samuel and Florence McDonald. His father was an employee of Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Participation in amateur theatrical productions sparked an interest in performing, causing him to leave Baltimore City College to pursue a career in entertainment. McDonald's professional performing debut came in a vaudeville act in which he played a burglar. He also acted on Broadway, in ''Puppets'' (1925), ''The K Guy'' (1928), ''Just to Remind You'' (1931), and ''Bulls, Bears and Asses'' (1932). Walter Abel
Walter Abel (June 6, 1898 – March 26, 1987) was an American film, stage and radio actor. Life Abel was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Christine (née Becker) and Richard Michael Abel. Abel graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts where he had studied in 1917 and joined a touring company. His brother Alfred died in 1922 from tuberculosis contracted while serving overseas in World War I. Abel was married to concert harpist Marietta Bitter. Career Abel made his film debut in 1918 with a small part in ''Out of a Clear Sky''. He made his Broadway debut in ''Forbidden'' in 1919. In 1924 he appeared in two Eugene O'Neill plays simultaneously: ''Bound East for Cardiff'' at the Provincetown Playhouse and ''Desire Under the Elms'' at the Greenwich Village Theater. Beverly Louise Roberts (May 19, 1914 – July 13, 2009) was an American film and stage actress of the 1930s, as well as a singer and painter. She worked as business executive in the entertainment industry through the 1970s. Career Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was first spotted by a Warner Bros. talent scout while singing in a nightclub in 1935. Having performed as a stage actress prior to that, she was signed to a contract with Warner Brothers, starring in her first film in 1936, titled ''The Singing Kid'', in which she appeared opposite Al Jolson. That same year she starred opposite Humphrey Bogart in ''Two Against the World (1936 film), Two Against the World''. Early years Meredith was born in Sioux City, Iowa, but grew up in Eagle Rock, California. She was active in journalism and dramatics at Eagle Rock High School, from which she graduated. She worked as a cashier in a Los Angeles theater before she became an actress. Career Meredith began her film career in the early 1930s, often starring in film serials while on contract with Columbia Pictures. Her best-known roles were in the 1938 serial '' The Spider's Web'', and in the 1939 serial ''Overland with Kit Carson''. In 1940 she starred in the serial '' The Green Archer'', as well as in several westerns opposite Charles Starrett, Bill Elliott, and Bob Allen. Henry Freulich
Henry Freulich (April 14, 1906 – December 4, 1985) was an American cinematographer for 31 years. He was married to the actress Kay Harris. Early life and career Freulich was born in New York City, the son of photographer Jacob "Jack" Freulich, 1880-1936. He began his career as a cameraman with Lon Chaney's ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame'' in 1922. While at Columbia Pictures in 1934, he was cinematographer for ''It Happened One Night'' with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. He worked on over a hundred Three Stooges films. In 1963, he shot a record (which he shared with Harry Neumann) 11 films. He worked in television later in his career. His career continued until 1969. Death Freulich died in Los Angeles, California, on December 4, 1985. James Sweeney (1901–1957) was an American film editor. Sweeney was born in Illinois and started his Hollywood career in 1929. After starting as a film editor for Columbia, including a number of Three Stooges short subjects, Sweeney spent most of the rest of his career on Columbia features and programmers.
