First Baptist Church of Glenarden International or FBCG is a Baptist Evangelical megachurch located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. It is affiliated with Converge. Weekly church attendance was 12,000 people in 2022. The senior pastor is John K. Jenkins Sr.. It is one of the largest, if not the largest church in the Washington DC metropolitan area. History The church has its origins in a 1917 house Bible study group led by Robert Warren and his wife. In 1920 it opened its first building in Glenarden. In 1989, John K. Jenkins Sr. became the senior pastor of the 500-member church. In 2007, it dedicated a new building in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Upper Marlboro including a 4,000-seat auditorium. Converge, formerly the Baptist General Conference (BGC) and Converge Worldwide, is an evangelical Baptist Christian denomination in United States introduced by Swedish Baptists that emerged late in the 19th century. Glenarden is a city in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 6,402. History Glenarden was developed in 1919, when W. R. Smith purchased a group of properties approximately 10 miles east of Washington, and established a residential community of 15 people.
