Finsterwalde
Finsterwalde (, dsb, Grabin) is a town in the Elbe-Elster district (German: Landkreis), in Lower Lusatia, Brandenburg, Germany. Overview It is situated on the Schackebach, a tributary of the Kleine Elster, 28 m. W.S.W of Cottbus by rail. Pop. (2005) 18,840. The town has a Gothic church (1581), a castle, schools, cloth and cigar factories, iron-foundries, flour and saw mills and factories for machine building. Popular are the "four singers from Finsterwalde" and their "singer-song". History Finsterwalde, which is first mentioned in 1288, came into the possession of the Electorate of Saxony from 1635 and of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815. From 1815 to 1947, Finsterwalde was part of the Prussian Province of Brandenburg. From 1952 to 1990, it was part of the Bezirk Cottbus of East Germany. Finsterwalde Solar Park
The Finsterwalde Solar Park was, in November 2010, the world's largest photovoltaic plant with 80.7 MWp. The project is located in Finsterwalde, Germany and is equipped with Q-Cells modules and LDK solar wafers. The first phase of the project was commissioned in 2009, the second and third in 2010. All phases were developed by Unlimited Energy GmbH. Phase I was sold to LQ Energy GmbH, a joint venture of Q-Cells International and LDK Solar. In 2011, Finsterwalde I was sold to LHI Leasing, a joint venture of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg and Nord/LB. In 2010, Unlimited Energy sold phase II and III to Q-Cells International. In 2011, Q-Cells sold Finsterwalde II and III to Blue Forrest Solar Holding, a joint venture of DIF Infrastructure and the NIBC European Infrastructure Fund. Hans-Jürgen Riediger
Hans Jürgen Riediger (born 20 December 1955) is a former footballer from East Germany. Riediger played for BFC Dynamo, scoring 105 goals / 196 DDR-Oberliga matches. He participated in 1976 Summer Olympics and received the gold medal. Career Born in Finsterwalde, Riediger began playing football at BSG Traktor Sonnewalde in 1964, played for BSG Motor Finsterwalde Süd from 1965 to 1970, and joined the youth academy of BFC Dynamo in August 1970. The striker came to prominence with 34 matches for the East German Junior team. He participated in XXVI.UEFA Turnire 1973. He scored goals for East Germany in the semi-final and the final. Detlef Irrgang
Detlef Irrgang (born 27 May 1966) is a German former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He is best remembered for his two spells with Energie Cottbus, spanning 22 years, over 400 appearances, and the reunification of Germany. Career Born in Finsterwalde, Irrgang began his footballing career with Motor Finsterwalde Süd, before joining Cottbus at age 11. He progressed to the first-team, and played for the club in the late-1980s as they yo-yoed between the DDR-Oberliga and the second tier DDR-Liga. After reunification, Energie failed to qualify for the 2. Bundesliga, so Irrgang joined a club who had: he spent the 1991–92 season with Stahl Brandeburg, but returned to Cottbus a year later, after 16 appearances and two goals. Thomas Eisfeld (born 18 January 1993) is a German professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Regionalliga West club Rot-Weiss Essen. Club career Born in Finsterwalde, Germany, Eisfeld began his football career at SV Quitt Ankum and VfL Osnabrück before joining Borussia Dortmund youth academy. At the beginning of his career at Borussia Dortmund youth academy, Eisfeld first assigned to the Borussia Dortmund U17 and quickly became a regular for the side. Hansgeorg Bätcher
Hansgeorg Bätcher (13 January 1914 – 23 April 2003) was a highly decorated pilot in the Luftwaffe and with more than 658 combat missions the leading bomber ace during World War II. He was a recipients of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. Military Training and Second World War Hansgeorg Bätcher began his training as a Pilot with Fliegergruppe Tutow between November 1935 and March 1936. Holding the rank of Leutnant, he became a Pilot in Kampfgeschwader 157 in December 1938. He participated in the invasion of Poland in 1939, and in the invasion of France in 1940. During one mission, he was shot down and captured in Rouen on 5 June 1940. He was released following France's surrender, and for a short time acted as a flying instructor. Inge Deutschkron
Inge Deutschkron (23 August 1922 – 9 March 2022) was a German and Israeli journalist and author. She experienced the Nazi regime as a girl and young woman, living in Berlin first working in a factory, then hiding with her mother. After World War II, she travelled the world, and became a journalist. In 1968, she was hired as a correspondent by the Israeli newspaper ''Maariv''. After reporting from the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials in 1963, she became an Israeli citizen and moved to Tel Aviv in 1972. She worked as a journalist until 1988, dedicated to international and Middle East politics. She lived as a freelance writer in Tel Aviv and Berlin, where she was active keeping alive the memory of the Holocaust, especially the silent heroes who helped Jews during the time. Elbe-Elster is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the southern part of Brandenburg, Germany. Neighboring districts are Teltow-Fläming, Dahme-Spreewald, Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Meißen, Nordsachsen and Wittenberg. The district has a partnership with the Märkischer Kreis. Peggy Nietgen (born 12 August 1986), née Kuznik, is a German football defender. She currently plays for 1. FC Köln. Career Kuznik began her career at the age of five at SV Blau-Weiß Tröbitz. Johann Carl Hermann Kotzschmar (July 4, 1829April 15, 1908) was a German-American musician, conductor, and composer. Kotzschmar was born in 1829 in Finsterwalde, Germany. His father, Johann Gottfried Kotzschmar, was the town ''Stadtmusiker'' and taught his son to play the violin, keyboard, flute, and horn. At age 14, Kotzschmar went to Dresden to study with Julius Otto, a choral conductor who was the cantor at the Kreuzkirche, Dresden. He studied with Otto for five years, then emigrated to America with a group of other musicians from Dresden who called themselves the Saxonia Band. The group toured New York and Philadelphia with Fry's Italian Opera, then split up when the show folded in Boston. While in Boston, Kotzschmar met Cyrus Libby Curtis, an amateur musician from Portland, Maine, who suggested he move there to find work.
