Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . There are now both domestic and international competitions in a number of countries, including the Speedway World Cup, whilst the highest overall scoring individual in the Speedway Grand Prix events is pronounced the world champion. Pekka Hautamaki
Pekka Heikki Hautamaki (born 9 June 1955) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Finland. Career Hautamaki made his British leagues debut in 1978, when he joined Cradley Heath for the 1978 British League season. The following season he moved to ride for the Belle Vue Aces. Also in 1979, he represented the Finland national speedway team during the 1977 Speedway World Team Cup. He established himself as a regular member of Finnish national squad and went on to compete in the next five Speedway World Cups, in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984. Ari Koponen (speedway Rider)
Ari Koponen (20 July 1959 – 28 April 2018) was a Finnish motorcycle speedway rider. Career In 1978, Koponen joined the Birmingham Brummies for the 1978 British League season, this was his first season in the British leagues. The following year he won a bronze medal at the 1979 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship. He remained with Birmingham for five years, scoring over 800 points until he joined Wimbledon Dons in 1983. It was in 1983, that Koponen became the national champion of Finland after winning the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship. In 1984, Koponen switched from Wimbledon to join the Swindon Robins where he enjoyed two successful seasons in 1984 and 1985. Also in 1985, he won a second Finnish national championship. Veijo Tuoriniemi (7 April 1958 – 9 January 2018) was a motorcycle speedway rider from Finland. Career Tuoriniemi made his British leagues debut in 1979, when he joined Eastbourne for the 1979 British League season. The same season he won the first of three bronze medals in the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship. In 1980, he continued to ride for Eastbourne and improved his average considerably. The following season he moved to ride for the Swindon Robins during the 1981 British League season. Olli is a Dutch children's book character and a stuffed toy. The character Olli was created in 2004 by Dutch designer and film director Hein Mevissen and writer Diederiekje Bok as a character for a bottled mineral water.
