Finland competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia from 7 to 23 February 2014. Ski Jumping
Ski jumping is a winter sport in which competitors aim to achieve the farthest jump after sliding down on their skis from a specially designed curved ramp. Along with jump length, competitor's aerial style and other factors also affect the final score. Ski jumping was first contested in Norway in the late 19th century, and later spread through Europe and North America in the early 20th century. Along with cross-country skiing, it constitutes the traditional group of Nordic skiing disciplines. The ski jumping venue, commonly referred to as a ''hill'', consists of the jumping ramp (''in-run''), take-off table, and a landing hill. Each jump is evaluated according to the distance traveled and the style performed. Cross-country Skiing At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Women's 4 × 5 Kilometre Relay
The women's 4 × 5 kilometre relay cross-country skiing competition at the 2014 Sochi Olympics took place on 15 February at Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex. Sweden won the event. This became the first gold medal in the women's relay for Sweden since the 1960 Winter Olympics. Finland won the silver medals, and Germany finished third. Gold medals won in this event featured a fragment from the Chelyabinsk meteor, to commemorate the first anniversary of the meteor strike. Results The race was started at 14:00. In November 2017, Yuliya Ivanova was disqualified from the event meaning that the whole Russian team was also disqualified. In September 2018, Marina Piller was disqualified for doping, and all her 2014 Olympic results were annulled, including the result of the Italian relay team. Aino-Kaisa Saarinen
Aino-Kaisa Saarinen (born 1 February 1979) is a retired Finnish cross-country skier who competed in the World Cup between 1998 and 2018. With 354 individual World Cup starts, Saarinen is the current record holder for both men and women, with Stefanie Böhler in second place with 343. Kerttu Elina Niskanen (born 13 June 1988) is a Finnish cross-country skier. She is a four-time Olympic medalist. Career At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo, her first senior WCH, Niskanen finished eighth in the 10 km classical event. To date, her best individual World Championship results are 4th places in the skiathlon and 30 km classical in the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun. Snowboarding At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Women's Slopestyle
The women's slopestyle competition of the Sochi 2014 Olympics was held at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park on 6 February (qualification) and 9 February (semi-finals and final). This was the first time that a slopestyle event was included in the Olympic program. Jamie Anderson of the United States became the first Olympic champion. Enni Rukajärvi from Finland took the silver, and Jenny Jones from Great Britain won the bronze medal. Qualification An athlete must have placed in the top 30 in at a World Cup event after July 2012 or at the 2013 World Championships and a minimum of 50 FIS points. The men's team sprint cross-country skiing competition in the classical technique at the 2014 Sochi Olympics took place on 19 February at Laura Biathlon & Ski Complex. The race was won by Finland's Iivo Niskanen and Sami Jauhojärvi, followed by Russia's Maxim Vylegzhanin and Nikita Kriukov second (+0.97 seconds) and Sweden's Emil Jönsson and Teodor Peterson third (+15.12 seconds).
