''Finishing School'' ( it, Fanciulle di lusso) is a 1953 French-Italian comedy film directed by Bernard Vorhaus and starring Susan Stephen, Anna Maria Ferrero and Jacques Sernas.Feldner, Gorrara & Passmore p.231 It was made at Cinecittà with sets designed by the art director Franco Lolli. It is also known by the alternative title of ''Luxury Girls''. Plot After finishing her studies, an American, Susan Miller, spends a vacation period in Rome with her parents. His father, a wealthy man who led a dissipated life, sent him to complete his worldly education at the famous college of Mont-Fleuri, Switzerland. Bernard Vorhaus
Bernard Vorhaus (December 25, 1904 – November 23, 2000) was an American film director of Austrian descent, born in New York City. His father was born in Krakow, then part of Austria-Hungary. Vorhaus spent many decades living in the UK. Eearly in his career, he worked as a screenwriter, and co-produced the film ''The Singing City''. He was blacklisted in Hollywood for his communist sympathies, and returned to England, where he resumed his career. Known, alongside Michael Powell, for his quota quickies, Vorhaus also worked in Europe. Career The Harvard University graduate, in addition to directing thirty-two films, was also the mentor to future film director David Lean, some of whose work as a film editor early in his career was on Vorhaus pictures. An alternative title is a media sales device most prominently used in film distribution. Books and films are commonly released under a different title when they are screened or sold in a different country. Roberto Risso
Roberto Risso (22 November 1925 – 16 November 2010) was a Swiss-born Italian film actor. Life and career Born Pietro Roberto Strub in Geneva, Risso joined the cinema industry when he was still a university student of architecture, playing a minor role in Pietro Francisci's ''The Lion of Amalfi'' (1950). One year later he was chosen to play the seducer of Pier Angeli in '' Tomorrow Is Another Day'', and the success of the film allowed him to play similar roles in a large number of films, mainly romantic comedies. In 1953 Risso touched the peak of his career with the role of the shy Carabiniere Pietro Stelluti madly in love with Gina Lollobrigida in Luigi Comencini's ''Bread, Love and Dreams'', a role that he reprised in the film sequel '' Bread, Love and Jealousy''. Paola di Gerfalco, Contessa di Gerfalco (18 September 1928 – 12 August 1986), better known by her professional name Paola Mori, was an Italian actress and aristocrat, and the third and last wife of Orson Welles. Biography Paola Mori was born in 1928 to an Italian aristocratic family. During World War II, she spent eights months in a concentration camp. Her father, a colonel in the Italian army under King Victor Emmanuel III, was a member of the anti-Mussolini resistance. By 1953, she had begun carving out a career for herself as a film actress, playing supporting roles in several Italian films. Estelle Brody (15 August 1900 – 3 June 1995) was an American actress who became one of the biggest female stars of British silent film in the latter half of the 1920s. Her career was then derailed by a series of ill-advised decisions and she disappeared from sight for many years before re-emerging between the late 1940s and the 1960s in smaller supporting film and television roles. Claudio Gora, '' Emilio Giordana '' (27 July 1913 – 13 March 1998) was an Italian actor and film director. He was particularly prolific, making some 155 appearances in film and television over nearly 60 years (from 1939 to 1997). Rossana Podestà (born Carla Dora Podestà; 20 June 1934 – 10 December 2013) was an Italian actress who worked mainly in Italy from the 1950s to the 1970s. Biography Podestà was born in Tripoli in the Italian colony of Libya. She spent her first years there, moving to Rome after World War II. At sixteen she was discovered by director Léonide Moguy during the preparation of the cast for the film '' Domani è un altro giorno''; this inaugurated a career in which she participated in sixty films, in Italy and abroad. In Italy, she resided in Dubino (Sondrio province). She married and then divorced movie producer Marco Vicario. From 1980 she lived with the mountain climber, explorer and journalist Walter Bonatti, who died alone in 2011, aged 81, at a private clinic where the hospital management would not allow his partner of more than 30 years to spend the last minutes of his life together because the two were not married.
