Finaçon
Finaçon was a Cape Verdean band active in the 1980s and 1990s. The band was formed after the split from Bulimundo. It performed several songs in the ''funaná'' genre. This style was brought to an international level and made contracts with foreign labels. The band tried to make a new dance craze to rival soca and lambada, but had little success outside Cape Verde. Three albums and three singles were recorded, including a single that was originally sung by Codé di Dona, a fellow Cape Verdean. History In early 1988, arrangements were made for the revival of the band. The drummer, Zé Augusto, who was a maintenance technician at Cape Verde National Radio at the time, contacted Palo, (who was soundman at the same radio station) wondering if this was an opportunity for him to join the band. Funaná
The ''funaná'' is a music and dance genre from Cape Verde. ''Funaná'' is an accordion-based music. The rhythm is usually provided by the '' ferrinho'' much like the use of washboards in zydeco, the saw in Caribbean ripsaw music, the scraper in Sub-Saharan African music and the güiro in Latin and Pre-Columbian music. Characteristics As a music genre, the ''funaná'' is characterized by having a variable tempo, from ''vivace'' to ''andante'', and a 2-beat rhythm. The ''funaná'' is intimately associated to the accordion, more precisely to the diatonic accordion, commonly known as ''gaita'' in Cape Verde. This influences a lot of musical aspects that characterize the ''funaná'', such as the fact that, in its most traditional form, the funaná uses only diatonic scales, Gonçalves, C. Codé Di Dona
Codé di Dona, nickname of Gregório Vaz, (July 10, 1940—January 5, 2010) was a Cape Verdean musician and composer. He was born in Chaminé near São Domingos and lived in the locality of São Francisco, in the same municipality he was born has another Cape Verdean music expert Ano Novo. He is considered one of the chief figures of funaná, a music genre once known only in his native island of Santiago and achieved universal renaissance today. He was professionally dependent on agriculture as a farmer, he was also a flower keeper. Codé di Dona composed classic songs at the Cape Verdean National Repertory including "Febri Funaná", "Fomi 47" (Portuguese: Fome de '47, English: '47 Famine), "Praia Maria", "Yota Barela", "Rufon Baré", "Pomba" and others. Lambada
Lambada () is a dance from State of Pará, Brazil. The dance became internationally popular in the 1980s, especially in the Philippines, Latin America and Caribbean countries. It has adopted aspects of dances such as forró, salsa, merengue, maxixe, carimbó and Bolivian saya. Lambada is generally a partner dance. The dancers generally dance with arched legs, with the steps being from side to side, turning or even swaying, and in its original form never front to back, with a pronounced movement of the hips. At the time when the dance became popular, short skirts for women were in fashion and men wore long trousers, and the dance has become associated with such clothing, especially for women wearing short skirts that swirl up when the woman spins around, typically revealing 90s-style thong underwear. RTC (Cape Verde)
The Radiotelevisão Caboverdiana is Cape Verde's first radio and television station broadcasting local programs from Cape Verde, Portugal and Brazil as well as the rest of the world especially France. It is a publicly owned company and enterprise and is located in the Capeverdean capital city of Praia, in the southern part in the middle of Achada Santo António RTC also has a few buildings, it also has offices in São Vicente (serving the northwestern part), Sal (serving the northeastern part), São Filipe on Fogo Island (serving the southwestern part) and Assomada in Santa Catarina (serving Northern Santiago and possibly Maio).
