Figueiredo Sobral
Figueiredo Sobral (1926 – 13 August 2010) was a Portuguese painter, sculptor and poet. His monumental sculptures and murals are displayed in public spaces in Portugal and Brazil. His work is held in many public and private collections. Life Jose Maria Figueiredo Sobral was born in Lisbon in 1926. He graduated from the Antonio Arroio Decorative Arts School ('' Escola Secundária ArtÃstica António Arroio'') where he studied under Lino António, Paula Campos and Rodrigues Alves. Sobral worked in a range of media including painting, graphic design, illustration, scenography and poetry. His paintings were first shown publicly at the General Exhibitions of Fine Arts (SNBA, Lisbon) immediately after World War II (1939–45). He joined the Portuguese surrealist group formed by Antônio Maria Lisboa and Cesariny Vasconcelos. His first individual exhibition was in Castelo de Vide in 1952. Escola Secundária ArtÃstica António Arroio
The ''Escola ArtÃstica António Arroio'' (António Arroio School of Arts) is a secondary school in Lisbon, Portugal that specializes in the applied arts. History The school was founded in 1919 as the ''Escola de Arte Aplicada de Lisboa'' (Applied Art School of Lisbon). The patron of the school, Antonio José Arroyo (1856–1934), was an engineer by profession who wrote about literature, music and fine arts. He was also a school inspector, and was devoted to the cause of technical education and the applied arts. It was designated a specialist school for pupils who wanted to engage in industrial art, with a curriculum that included workshop-based training in the arts. Alfredo Roque Gameiro was the head of the school until 1930, when it was merged into the Fonseca Benevides industrial school. Lino António
Lino António da Conceição (26 November 1898 – 23 October 1974) was a Portuguese artist known for his Modernist paintings. He made many friezes, frescos, stained glass and ceramic panels for public buildings and private collections in Portugal. He taught in several schools and was director for many years at the Escola Secundária ArtÃstica António Arroio (António Arroio Secondary Arts School) in Lisbon, having an influence over hundreds of artists, mostly painters and designers. Life Lino António da Conceição was born in Leiria on 26 November 1898. His parents were Lino António da Conceição and Maria do Carmo Pereira Dias da Conceição. He had two older sisters and two younger sisters. He spent time in the studio of his teacher and friend Narciso Costa.
