Fide, Gotland
Fide is a populated area, a socken (not to be confused with parish), on the Swedish island of Gotland. It comprises the same area as the administrative Fide District, established on 1January 2016. Geography Fide is situated on the narrow southern isthmus that connects the Storsudret peninsula to Gotland. The medieval Fide Church is located in the socken. , Fide Church belongs to Hoburg parish in Sudrets pastorat, along with the churches in Öja, Hamra, Vamlingbo and Sundre. One of the asteroids in the asteroid belt, 10123 Fideöja, is named after this place and the neighboring Öja socken. History On a wall of the Fide Church is a piece of 13th-century graffiti depicting a ship. It was carved into the plaster while it was still soft during the construction of the church. Gutnish Language
Gutnish ( ), or rarely Gutnic ( sv, gutniska or ), refers to the original language spoken on parts of the islands of Gotland and Fårö. The different dialects of Gutnish, while stemming from the Old Gutnish ( sv, Forngutniska) variety of Old Norse, are sometimes considered part of modern Swedish. Gutnish exists in two variants, Mainland Gutnish (''Storlandsgutamål'' or ''Storlandsmål''), mostly spoken in the southern and southeastern portion of Gotland, where the dialect of Lau, Gotland, Lau became the standard form on the Main Island (''Lau Gutnish'' → ''Laumål''), and Fårömål dialect, Fårö Gutnish (Gutnish: ''Faroymal''; sv, Fårömål), spoken on the island of Fårö. Fide Church
Fide Church ( sv, Fide kyrka) is a medieval church in Fide on the Swedish island of Gotland, surrounded by an unusually well-preserved medieval cemetery. Belonging to the Church of Sweden, it lies in the Diocese of Visby. History and architecture Fide Church dates from the 13th century. Oldest are the nave and choir, while the tower was added slightly later. The roof lantern which gives the top of the tower its distinctive shape is however considerably later, from 1826. The church lies in an unusually well-preserved medieval cemetery which is surrounded by a low wall in which three medieval lych gates still sits. The building material of the church is sandstone. The exterior of the church is rather plain, but unusually the church still has the original windows, which have never been enlarged. List Of Gotland Related Asteroids
Several asteroids or minor planets in the asteroid belt with Gotland-related names have been discovered and named by Swedish astronomer Claes-Ingvar Lagerkvist. Others have been named during courses of the Uppsala-ESO Survey of Asteroids and Comets at the European Southern Observatory and have not been credited to a single discoverer, but rather collective work. , 175,658 asteroids have been numbered and almost 14,300 of those have been named. 205 have been named after places, persons or fictional figures in Sweden. A portion of these are from the island of Gotland. Gotland is fairly well represented because Lagerkvist has been a summer resident on the island since 1983. The first asteroid to receive a Gotland-related name was 3250 Martebo in 1979, named after a settlement on the island. The asteroid belt is a torus-shaped region in the Solar System, located roughly between the orbits of the planets Jupiter and Mars. It contains a great many solid, irregularly shaped bodies, of many sizes, but much smaller than planets, called asteroids or minor planets. An asteroid is a minor planet of the inner Solar System. Sizes and shapes of asteroids vary significantly, ranging from 1-meter rocks to a dwarf planet almost 1000 km in diameter; they are rocky, metallic or icy bodies with no atmosphere. It comprises the same area as the administrative Sundre District, established on 1January 2016. Geography Sundre is the name of the socken as well as the district. It is also the name of the small village surrounding the medieval Sundre Church, sometimes referred to as ''Sundre kyrkby''. It is the southernmost socken on the island, situated on the south tip of Gotland on the Storsudret peninsula. Geography Hamra is situated on the southeastern tip of Gotland. The medieval Hamra Church is located in the socken. The small Vändburg harbor and Hammarhage Hällar sea stack area are also in Hamra.
