Fettes College
Fettes College () is a co-educational independent boarding and day school in Edinburgh, Scotland, with over two-thirds of its pupils in residence on campus. The school was originally a boarding school for boys only and became co-ed in 1983. In 1978 the College had a nine-hole golf course, an ice-skating rink used in winter for ice hockey and in summer as an outdoor swimming pool, a cross-country running track and a rifle shooting range within the forested 300-acre grounds.Fettes College Prospectus 1978 Fettes is sometimes referred to as a public school, although that term was traditionally used in Scotland for state schools. Fettes Brot
Fettes Brot () is a German hip hop group that formed in 1992. History Band name Fettes Brot means ''fat bread'' in German. "Fett" is a German slang term for "excellent" and brot is slang for "hash". The band took the name from a fan who called them "Fettes Brot" after an early gig, which was probably meant as a compliment, but the members considered it so bizarre that they took it as the name for their new group. Fettes Brot's longevity has meant that they are sometimes referred to as "Hamburg's hip hop dinosaurs" by the group members. William Fettes
Sir William Fettes, 1st Baronet (; 25 June 1750 – 27 May 1836) was a wealthy Scottish businessman and philanthropist, who left a bequest which led to the foundation of Fettes College, in Edinburgh. Life The Fettes family came from north east Scotland, where the name can be encountered in such variants as "Vettese" (cf. the Scottish writer Raymond Vettese), "Fittes", "Fettis" and "Fiddes". Fettes was born on 25 June 1750, the eldest son of Margaret, daughter of James Rae, and William Fettes, an Edinburgh merchant. At the age of 8 he attended the Royal High School in Edinburgh. When he was 18 years old he commenced his business life, trading in wine and tea from premises in the High Street. In 1787 he married Maria Malcolm and in 1788 their only son, William Fettes (1788-1815) was born. Fettesian-Lorettonian Club
The Fettesian-Lorettonians Club is a Scotland, Scottish sporting club made up of former pupils of Fettes College and Loretto School. The club was founded in 1881 and has seen members of its club represent the Scotland national rugby union team. Club history The Fettesian-Lorettonians Club was formed in 1881, when a scratch team of ex-Fettes College students underwent a tour of North Yorkshire under the name ''Fettes Rovers'' in 1880.Marshall (1892), pg 64. Failing to recruit a full team, the side approached the headmaster of rival college Loretto School, and requested if he would allow members of the Loretto XI could play for the team. Their request was granted, and the partnership between the two schools was so successful it was turned into a friendly sporting club. Christopher Fettes
Christopher Fettes (born 1937) is an English former teacher, farmer and founder of the Irish Green Party. He is an honorary member of the International Vegetarian Union and of the World Esperanto Association. Life Christopher Fettes was born in Bromley, Kent, England and educated at Clayesmore School, Dorset, and in English and French at the University of Dublin. He taught for a year in France and then for 37 years at Saint Columba's College, Dublin, for most of that time as a housemaster. During that period, he revived the Irish Anti-Vivisection Society and the Esperanto Association of Ireland, became an Irish citizen in 1970, and founded the Vegetarian Society of Ireland and was Secretary of the European Vegetarian Union. Leonardus Franciscus Maria van de Pas (28 October 1942 ‒ 17 August 2016), known as Leo van de Pas, was a Dutch and Australian historian and genealogist. Early life Pas was born on 28 October 1942 in De Bilt, Netherlands to Wilhelmus Martinus (Willem) van de Pas (1901–1960) and Johanna Jacoba Cox (1909–1987). His father was a religious author and Pas grew up in a particularly religious household. After his father's death in 1960, he served in various religious and clerical positions, as well as undertaking his national service in New Guinea (1962). To explore a new life abroad, he immigrated to Australia in 1968, where he took a position as an administrative assistant to the Dutch-Australian author G. M. Glaskin in Perth, Western Australia.
