Fernando Gentil
Fernando Bunker Gentil (born 11 March 1950) is a Brazilian former professional tennis player. Biography Gentil was born in 1950, to a São Paulo surgeon and an American mother. His grandfather on his mother's side was diplomat Ellsworth Bunker, who was the U.S. Ambassador to South Vietnam from 1967 to 1973. As a teenager, Gentil competed in the main draw of the French Open and twice reached the second round, both times with a walkover, including over Jan Kodeš in 1968. He left the tour to attend the University of Southern California and played collegiate tennis for the Trojans, before graduating with an MBA degree in 1974. Gentil appeared in two Davis Cup ties for Brazil. He won each of his matches, a doubles rubber against Peru in 1976 and a singles rubber against Uruguay's Hugo Roverano in 1978. Bob Falkenburg
Robert Falkenburg (January 29, 1926 – January 6, 2022) was an American amateur tennis player and entrepreneur. He is best known for winning the Men's Singles at the 1948 Wimbledon Championships and for introducing soft ice cream and American fast food to Brazil in 1952. He founded the Brazilian fast food chain Bob's. Early life Falkenburg was born in New York City on January 29, 1926, and grew up in Los Angeles, California, in a tennis-playing family. His parents, Eugene "Genie" Lincoln Falkenburg (an engineer involved in the construction of Hoover Dam) and Marguerite "Mickey" Crooks Falkenburg were amateur tennis players. While employed by Westinghouse, Eugene was transferred to South America, where he moved with his wife and three children to São Paulo, Brazil. There Mickey won the state tennis championship in 1927. Hugo Roverano (born 3 January 1958) is an Uruguayan former professional tennis player. Between 1975 and 1985, Roverano featured in a total of nine ties for the Uruguay Davis Cup team. Most famously, in the 1978 tournament, he helped Uruguay secure the country's only Davis Cup win over Brazil. His win against Carlos Kirmayr gave Uruguay a 2–0 lead and he then partnered with José Luis Damiani to win in the doubles and secure the tie. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as the World Champion team. The competition began in 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the United States. By 2016, 135 nations entered teams into the competition. Jan Kodeš
Jan Kodeš (born 1 March 1946) is a Czech former professional tennis player. A three-time major singles champion, Kodeš was one of the premier players in the early 1970s. Kodeš's greatest success was achieved on the clay courts of the French Open, where he won the singles title in 1970 and 1971. However, he also won Wimbledon on grass courts in 1973, although the tournament was largely boycotted by top players that year over the ban of Nikola Pilić by the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF). Kodeš never played at the Australian Open, but was twice the runner-up at the US Open, in 1971 and 1973. Kodeš reached his highest ATP ranking of world No. 5 in September 1973.
