Fergal Browne
Fergal Browne (born 11 September 1973) is an Irish Fine Gael politician from County Carlow in Ireland. He was as a member of Seanad Éireann, elected by the Labour Panel from 2002 to 2007. A member of Carlow Town Council from the 1999 local elections until the abolition in 2003 of the dual mandate, Browne was elected as Mayor of Carlow town in July 2002. At the 2007 general election he stood in the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency, but did not win a seat. After his defeat, he stood for the 23rd Seanad on the Cultural and Educational Panel, but was unsuccessful. He was elected to Carlow County Council in 2009 for the Carlow East local electoral area. He was re-elected to Carlow County Council in May 2014 and was elected as chairman (Cathaoirleach) for 2014 to 2015. His father John Browne was a senator and a TD for Carlow–Kilkenny. Fine Gael
Fine Gael (, ; English: "Family (or Tribe) of the Irish") is a liberal-conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Ireland. Fine Gael is currently the third-largest party in the Republic of Ireland in terms of members of Dáil Éireann and largest in terms of Irish members of the European Parliament. The party has a membership of 25,000 in 2021. Leo Varadkar succeeded Enda Kenny as party leader on 2 June 2017 and as Taoiseach on 14 June; Kenny had been leader since 2002, and Taoiseach since 2011. Cultural And Educational Panel
The Cultural and Educational Panel () is one of five vocational panels which together elect 43 of the 60 members of Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Oireachtas (the legislature of Ireland). The Cultural and Educational Panel elects five senators. Election Article 18 of the Constitution of Ireland provides that 43 of the 60 senators are to be elected from five vocational panels. The Cultural and Educational Panel is defined in Article 18.7.1º (i) as "National Language and Culture, Literature, Art, Education and such professional interests as may be defined by law for the purpose of this panel". The Seanad returning officer maintains a list of nominating bodies for each of the five panels. Candidates may be nominated either by four members of the Oireachtas or by a nominating body. John Browne (Fine Gael Politician)
John Browne (1 October 1936 – 27 March 2019) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Carlow–Kilkenny constituency from 1989 to 2002. He served as a Senator from 1983 to 1987. Biography A former teacher, he was appointed to Seanad Éireann as Senator in 1983 by the Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald, but he was not returned again after Fine Gael lost power following the 1987 general election. Browne was first elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael TD at the 1989 general election and retained his seat at the 1992 and 1997 general elections, before retiring at the 2002 general election. His son Fergal Browne also served as a Senator. A local electoral area (LEA; ga, Toghlimistéir Áitiúil) is an electoral area for elections to local authorities in Ireland. All elections use the single transferable vote. Carlow County Council ( ga, Comhairle Chontae Cheatharlach) is the authority responsible for local government in County Carlow, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. County Carlow
County Carlow ( ; ga, Contae Cheatharlach) is a county located in the South-East Region of Ireland, within the province of Leinster.
