Ferdinando Bonsignore
Ferdinando Bonsignore (10 June 1760, in Turin – 27 June 1843, in Turin) was an Italian architect and designer. 250px, Façade of Gran Madre di Dio, Turin. Biography He was a student of the ''Accademia di Pittura e Scultura di Torino'' in 1782, and from 1783–1798 he was given a scholarship to Rome by the King of Sardinia. In Rome he worked with Nicola Giansimoni (1727-1800), a neoclassic architect. In 1798, he returned to Turin and was nominated architect and designer to the court. He became professor of architecture in the ''Ecole spéciale d’architecture dell’Académie des Sciences, Littérature et Beaux Arts'' (1802–03) and at the University in 1805. In 1813 he received a gold medal for his design of a Monument to Napoleon on the Moncenisio. He kept his university position after the restoration, as well as numerous other awards and appointments. Teatro Regio (Turin)
The Teatro Regio (Royal Theatre) is a prominent opera house and opera company in Turin, Piedmont, Italy. Its season runs from October to June with the presentation of eight or nine operas given from five to twelve performances of each. Several buildings provided venues for operatic productions in Turin from the mid-16th century, but it was not until 1713 that a proper opera house was considered, and under the architect Filippo Juvarra planning began. However, the cornerstone was not laid until the reign of Charles Emmanuel III in 1738 after Juvarra's death. The work was supervised by Benedetto Alfieri until the theatre was completed and decorated by Bernardino Galliari. The Royal Castle of Racconigi is a palace and landscape park in Racconigi, province of Cuneo, Italy. The Battle of Trocadero, fought on 31 August 1823, was the only significant battle in the French invasion of Spain in support of King Ferdinand VII. French forces defeated the Spanish liberal forces and restored the absolute rule of Ferdinand. Prelude After the downfall of Napoleon Bonaparte, King Ferdinand VII of Spain refused to adopt the liberal Spanish Constitution of 1812 and in 1820 faced a rebellion in favour of a constitutional monarchy, led by Rafael del Riego y Nuñez. The King was captured and detained at Cádiz, where the Cortes, the Spanish parliament assembled. Alarmed by these events, the other European powers convened in October 1822 at the Congress of Verona and authorized France to intervene in the conflict and restore the rule of Ferdinand, with only Britain abstaining from that decision.
