Ferdinand Van Ingen
Ferdinand Jacobus van Ingen (8 December 1933 – 27 February 2021) was a Dutch scholar of Germanistics. He was a professor of German literature at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam between 1972 and 1998. Life Van Ingen was born on 8 December 1933 in Maartensdijk. He studied German studies, literary science, art history and musicology at Utrecht University, the Free University of Berlin and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He obtained his PhD in 1962 from Utrecht University. From 1957 to 1962 he was a scientific assistant at the Institute for German Language and Literature in Utrecht. In 1964 van Ingen became a lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 1970 he became associate professor and in 1972 full professor for new German literature. He retired in 1998. German Literature
German literature () comprises those literature, literary texts written in the German language. This includes literature written in Germany, Austria, the German parts of Switzerland and Belgium, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, South Tyrol in Italy and to a lesser extent works of the German diaspora. German literature of the modern period is mostly in Standard German, but there are some currents of literature influenced to a greater or lesser degree by German dialects, dialects (e.g. Alemannic literature, Alemannic). The Herzog August Library (german: link=no, Herzog August Bibliothek — "HAB"), in Wolfenbüttel, Lower Saxony, known also as ''Bibliotheca Augusta'', is a library of international importance for its collection from the Middle Ages and early modern Europe. Zeist
Zeist () is the capital and largest town of the municipality of Zeist. The town is located in the Utrecht province of the Netherlands, east of the city of Utrecht. History The town of "Seist" was first mentioned in a charter in the year 838. The original settlement was located at the present ''Dorpsstraat''. In the late 12th century, a church was built here. Its tower is now a part of the Reformed Church, the remainder of which was built in the 19th century. Until medieval times, a branch of the river Rhine flowed close to the centre of the town. Three mansions were built near the village: the ''Huis te Zeist'', Kersbergen, and Blikkenburg. From 1677 to 1686, the "Slot Zeist" was built on or near the ruins of "Kasteel Zeist", the original castle (donjon) of Rodgar van Zeist. Baroque
The Baroque (, ; ) is a style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture, poetry, and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th century until the 1750s. In the territories of the Spanish and Portuguese empires including the Iberian Peninsula it continued, together with new styles, until the first decade of the 19th century. It followed Renaissance art and Mannerism and preceded the Rococo (in the past often referred to as "late Baroque") and Neoclassical styles.
