Fencing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's épée
The men's épée fencing competition at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing took place on August 10 at the Olympic Green Convention Centre. There were 41 competitors from 23 nations. The event was won by Matteo Tagliariol of Italy, the nation's first victory in the event since 1960 (the last of six consecutive wins) and first medal of any color since 1968. It was Italy's seventh overall victory, most among nations. The silver medal went to Fabrice Jeannet of France. José Luis Abajo earned Spain's first men's individual épée medal with his bronze. The Russian fencers' streak of five Games on the podium (including Russian fencers for the Soviet Union in 1988 and Unified Team in 1992) ended. Olympic Green Convention Centre
The China National Convention Center, previously known as the Olympic Green Convention Center () is a convention center located in the Olympic Green in Beijing. History It was designed by RMJM and was originally used for the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. It covers an area of 270,000 square metres. It was one of the four principal buildings of the Olympic Green. Michael Kauter (born February 18, 1979 in Bern) is a Swiss épée fencer. He won a bronze medal in the weapon at the 2008 European Fencing Championships in Kiev, Ukraine. He is the son of Christian Kauter, a medalist at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich and at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal in épée, and the brother of Fabian Kauter, an Olympic fencer in the same weapon.
