Fencing At The 1996 Summer Olympics – Men's épée
The men's épée was one of ten fencing events on the fencing at the 1996 Summer Olympics programme. It was the twenty-second appearance of the event. The competition was held on 20 July 1996. 45 fencers from 21 nations competed, a sharply reduced number from prior Games which generally had 60 to 80 fencers. Each nation remained limited to 3 fencers in the event. The event was won by Aleksandr Beketov of Russia, the nation's first victory and first medal in the event in its debut (though it was the third straight Games with a Russian on the podium, with Andrey Shuvalov taking bronze for the Soviet Union in 1988 and Pavel Kolobkov earning silver representing the Unified Team in 1992). Iván Trevejo's silver was Cuba's first medal in the event since Ramón Fonst won the first two gold medals in 1900 and 1904. The Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) is a convention center in Atlanta, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. Angelo Mazzoni
Angelo Mazzoni (born 3 April 1961, in Milan) is an Italian épée fencer who competed at six consecutive Olympics between 1980 and 2000, winning gold in 1996 and 2000. Career He was the eighth fencer, and the first Italian fencer, to compete at six Olympics. He was the third Italian, after Piero and Raimondo D'Inzeo, to compete at six Olympics. At the World Championships, he placed third in 1983 and second in 1990. At the European Championships, he came first in 1981 and third in 1983. He was coached by Italian coach Gianni Muzio. In February 2008, he and Muzio were hired by the Fencing Federation of Switzerland to be in charge of coaching the Switzerland men's and women's team for the 2012 London Olympics. In April 2014, Mazzoni decided to leave Switzerland and expressed the desire to return to Italy mainly for family reasons. Tamir Bloom
Tamir Bloom (born December 24, 1971) is an American epee fencer. Personal life Bloom was born in New York City, and is Jewish. He is a cousin of Israeli Olympian judoka Gil Ofer. Bloom has both U.S. and Israeli citizenship. He attended Millburn High School. Bloom's father is artist Murray Bloom. Krisztián Kulcsár
Krisztián Kulcsár (born 28 June 1971) is a Hungarian fencer, who has won two Olympic silver medals in the team épée competition. He became world champion in 2007. As of 2013, he is deputy chairman of the Hungarian Fencing Federation. Kulcsár has a university degree in Economics and Law. In his private life, he is married with two daughters and one son. Kulcsár was elected President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB) on 2 May 2017, replacing Zsolt Borkai. The general assembly of MOB withdrew confidence from Kulcsár on 30 December 2021.
