''Feminist Avantgarde: Art of the 1970s'' is an international series of exhibitions and a book publication curated and edited by the Austrian art historian Gabriele Schor about feminist art in the second half of the twentieth century. Gabriele Schor
Gabriele Schor, born in Vienna in 1961, is an Austrian writer, art critic and curator. She is a specialist of the feminist avantgarde of the 1970s. Biography Gabriele Schor studied philosophy in Vienna and art history in San Diego. The subject of her doctorate is the sculptor Alberto Giacometti. She worked for the Tate Gallery in London. In 1996, she curated the exhibition on Barnett Newman at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and at the Albertina in Vienna. She worked as a correspondent and art critic for the ''Neue Zürcher Zeitung'' in Vienna for seven years. She is a professor of modern art and art history at the University of Graz, the University of Salzburg and the University of Vienna. Eleanor Antin
Eleanor Antin (née Fineman; February 27, 1935) is an American performance artist, film-maker, installation artist, conceptual artist and feminist artist. Early life and education Eleanor Fineman was born in the Bronx on February 27, 1935. Her parents, Sol Fineman and Jeanette Efron, were Polish Jews who had recently immigrated to the United States. She attended the Music and Art High School in New York, New School for Social Research, and then the City College of New York, graduating in 1958. There she met David Antin, a poet who would become her husband in 1961. She studied acting and had some roles, including performing in a staged reading with Ossie Davis at the first NAACP convention. She and her husband moved to San Diego in 1968. She taught at the University of California at Irvine from 1974–79, and from 1979 was professor of visual arts at the University of California at San Diego. Sonia Andrade (born 1935) is a Brazilian feminist and visual artist. She was born in 1935 in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil She was one of the pioneers in video art in Brazil. Emma Amos (16 March 1937 – 20 May 2020) was a Postmodernist art, postmodern African Americans, African-American Painting, painter and printmaker. Early life Amos was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1937 to India DeLaine Amos and Miles Green Amos. She also has an older brother named Larry. Amos took an interest in art at an early age, creating "masses of paper dolls" and learning figure drawing from issues of Esquire (magazine), Esquire and the art of Alberto Vargas, was painting the figure by the age of nine. Helena Almeida
Helena Almeida (11 April 1934 – 25 September 2018) was a Portuguese artist known for her work in photography, performance art, body art, painting and drawing. She represented Portugal at the Venice Biennale in 1982 and 2005 and had a solo exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017. Early life Almeida was born in Lisbon in 1934. She was the daughter of the sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida (1898–1975). In 1955, Almeida completed the painting course at the School of Fine Arts in Lisbon. She married architect Artur Rosa. The Hamburger Kunsthalle is the art museum of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Germany. It is one of the largest art museums in the country.
