Felipe López (author)
Felipe H. López is a Zapotec-language scholar and writer. Life López was born in the town of San Lucas Quiaviní, Oaxaca in Mexico. At the age 16, he migrated to Los Angeles, California, speaking no English and little Spanish. Later, he obtained a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in Urban planning, and currently he is a faculty member at Seton Hall University. He has published poetry, academic articles, and Zapotec-language learning materials. Zapotec Languages
The Zapotec languages are a group of around 50 closely related indigenous languages of Mesoamerica, indigenous Mesoamerican languages that constitute a main branch of the Oto-Manguean languages, Oto-Manguean language family and which is spoken by the Zapotec people from the southwestern-central highlands of Mexico. A 2020 census reports nearly half a million speakers, with the majority inhabiting the state of Oaxaca.
