Feliks Stamm
Feliks “Papa” Stamm (14 December 1901, Kościan (german: Kosten) German Empire – 2 April 1976, Warsaw) was a prominent Polish boxing coach. He is widely regarded as the father of Polish boxing, and the creator of the so-called Polish school of boxing. To commemorate him, since 1977 annual Feliks Stamm Boxing Tournament takes place in Warsaw. In 1987, the tournament was won by Lennox Lewis. In 1923–1926, he was a boxer at the club ''Pentatlon'' in Poznań. He rolled down 13 official fights (11 won, 1 drew, 1 loss) as well as about 30 show fights. In 1926, Stamm became a boxing coach at Warta Poznań, and since 1932, he was a lecturer at Central Institute of Physical Education in Warsaw (today's Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw). Kościan
Kościan (german: Kosten) is a town on the Obra canal in west-central Poland, with a population of 23 952 inhabitants as of June 2014. Situated in the Greater Poland Voivodeship (since 1999), previously in Leszno Voivodeship (1975–1998), it is the capital of Kościan County. Józef Grudzień (1 April 1939 – 17 June 2017) was a Polish boxer. Grudzień was born 1 April 1939 in Piasek Wielki, Poland, which is near Busko-Zdrój. Zbigniew Jan Pietrzykowski (4 October 1934 – 19 May 2014) was a Polish boxer. He took part in three Olympic Games, each time winning a medal. He won a bronze medal at Melbourne 1956 in the light middleweight division, after losing in the semi-final to Hungarian László Papp. Four years later in Rome, he reached the final of the light heavyweight division, where he lost to Cassius Clay, who was 7 years younger. Leszek Melchior Drogosz (6 January 1933 – 7 September 2012) was a Polish boxer and actor. Drogosz was born in Kielce. He thrice won the gold medal at the European Amateur Boxing Championships in the Light welterweight division at Warsaw 1953 and West Berlin 1955, and in the Welterweight division at Lucerne 1959. He participated in the Summer Olympics in Helsinki 1952, Melbourne 1956, and Rome 1960. He won the bronze medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Zygmunt Chychła (5 November 1926 – 26 September 2009) was a Polish boxer. He won the first post-World War II Olympic gold medal for Poland. Career In 1939 he began training at the Polish boxing club '' Gedania'', having started boxing at the age 12. During the war he lost his Gdańsk citizenship and was compulsorily conscripted into the Wehrmacht in 1944. In France he deserted and joined the 2nd Polish Army, led by general Władysław Anders, in Italy. He returned to Poland in 1946. In 1947, he made his debut with the national boxing team of Poland, led by famous coach Feliks Stamm. He started at the 1948 London Olympic Games and reached the quarterfinal.
