The Chilean Field Hockey Federation ( es, Federación Chilena de Hockey Sobre Césped), is the governing body of field hockey in Chile. It is based in Santiago, was founded in 1981 by Rodolfo Westendarp, however, since 1962 field hockey in Chile was practiced at events in the city of Viña del Mar by British immigrants. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. The Fédération Internationale de Hockey (English: International Hockey Federation), commonly known by the acronym and initialism, acronym FIH, is the international governing body of field hockey and indoor field hockey. Viña del Mar (; meaning "Vineyard of the Sea") is a city and commune on central Chile's Pacific coast. Chile Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Chile men's national field hockey team represents Chile in men's international field hockey competitions and is controlled by the Federación Chilena de Hockey Sobre Césped. It is affiliated with the International Hockey Federation and the Pan American Hockey Federation. Hockey arrived in Chile in the mid-20th century. Chile has never qualified for the Hockey World Cup until 2021, but it has had success at the youth level, as in Versailles 1979. In the Pan American Games, Chile has been present in all years except the year 1967, obtaining a 3rd-place finish in 1983, 2007, 2011 and 2015. The Chile women's national field hockey team represents Chile in the international field hockey. The team is governed by the International Hockey Federation and the PAHF. The team is also known by the nickname Las Diablas, which translates to The Devils. It is controlled by the Chilean Hockey Federation.
