Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette (6 September 1757 – 20 May 1834), known in the United States as Lafayette (, ), was a French aristocrat, freemason and military officer who fought in the American Revolutionary War, commanding American troops in several battles, including the siege of Yorktown. After returning to France, he was a key figure in the French Revolution of 1789 and the July Revolution of 1830. He has been considered a national hero in both countries. Lafayette was born into a wealthy land-owning family in Chavaniac in the province of Auvergne in south central France. He followed the family's martial tradition and was commissioned an officer at age 13. He became convinced that the American revolutionary cause was noble, and he traveled to the New World seeking glory in it. Fayette is a town in Sanpete County, Utah, United States. The population was 204 at the 2000 census. History Fayette was originally called "Warm Creek", and under the latter name was founded in 1861. A post office called Fayette was in operation between 1864 and 1966. The present name is after Fayette, New York, the town where the LDS Church was founded. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square mile (1.2 km2), all land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 204 people, 64 households, and 49 families residing in the town. The population density was 421.2 people per square mile (164.1/km2). Fayette Historic State Park is the state park of the historic town of Fayette in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located on the Big Bay de Noc of Lake Michigan, between Snail Shell Harbor and Sand Bay, on the southern side of the Upper Peninsula, about 17 miles south of US 2. Fayette was the site of an industrial community that manufactured charcoal pig iron between 1867 and 1891. The town has been reconstructed into a living museum, showing what life was like in this town in the late 19th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Fayette City is a borough in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 502 at the 2020 census, a decline from the figure of 596 tabulated in 2010. It is served by the Belle Vernon Area School District. Some buildings in the town antedate 1820. Like many towns in this area, Fayette City has been home to many coal miners supporting the coal industry in the region. It was the site of the Naomi Mine explosion, December 7, 1907. History Originally known as "La Fayette", it incorporated on January 15, 1821.
