Fay Jones (politician)
Fay Alicia Jones (born 18 January 1985) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brecon and Radnorshire since 2019. She is a member of the Conservative Party. She has been serving as Assistant Government Whip since October 2022. Early life and education Fay Jones was born in Cardiff in 1985. Her father is Gwilym Jones, who at the time of her birth was the Conservative MP for Cardiff North. She studied French at King's College London. After graduating from university, Jones' first job was as a researcher for the Prince of Wales. In 2012, she moved to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to join the UK negotiating team in the 2011 Common Agricultural Policy reform. She then worked for the National Farmers' Union and for the public relations firm Grayling. Mark Steven Spencer (born 20 January 1970) is a British politician serving as Minister of State for Food, Farming and Fisheries since 2022. He previously served as Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council from February to September 2022 and as Chief Whip from 2019 to 2022. They are selected from backbench MPs as the 'eyes and ears' of the minister in the House of Commons. Christopher Paul Davies (born 18 August 1967) is a British politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brecon and Radnorshire from 2015 to 2019. He is a member of the Conservative Party. Davies won the seat in the 2015 general election when he defeated incumbent Liberal Democrat Roger Williams. On 22 March 2019, he pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud concerning parliamentary expenses; on 21 June he was removed from office by a recall petition. Recall Of MPs Act 2015
The Recall of MPs Act 2015 (c. 25) is an act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that makes provision for constituents to be able to recall their Member of Parliament (MP) and call a by-election. It received royal assent on 26 March 2015 after being introduced on 11 September 2014. Unlike recall procedures in some other countries, the act does not allow constituents to initiate proceedings. Instead, proceedings are initiated only if an MP is found guilty of a wrongdoing that fulfils certain criteria. This petition is successful if at least one in ten voters in the constituency sign. Successful petitions force the recalled MP to vacate the seat, resulting in a by-election. To date, three petitions have been made under the act; two of these received sufficient signatures to trigger a by-election.
