Fashion Design Council Of India
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) is an organisation in India. FDCI is a non-profit independent association of fashion designers formed to propagate the Business of Fashion in India in December 1998. Currently, the office is based in New Delhi with Sunil Sethi as the President. FDCI is supported by the Indian Textile Ministry & it also works very closely with fashion institute like NIFT. Fashion events Fashion events it sponsors include: * The bi-annual prêt weeks for womenswear -India Fashion Week, * A week for men's fashion- India Mens Week, * The annual platform for couture- India Couture Week. In 2006, Montana World of Wearable Art(tm) (WOW) and FDCI collaborated in encouraging Indian participation in the latter's fashion show in New Zealand. India is a country with an ancient clothing design tradition, yet an emerging fashion industry. Though a handful of designers existed prior to the 1980s, the late 1980s and the 1990s saw a spurt of growth. Yusuf Arakkal
Yusuf Arakkal (1945 – 2016) was an Indian artist. Life Arakkal was born in Chavakkad, Kerala. Both his parents died when he was young. Leaving the comforts of his house behind, he left for Bangalore, lonely but with a passion to become a painter. The hardships that he faced at Bangalore honed the artist in him and sharpened his sensibility. He took a diploma in painting from '' Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat'' (KCP), Bangalore and later specialized in graphic print making from National Academy community studios, Garhi, Delhi. Arakkal received the prestigious ''Lorenzo De Medici Gold Medal'', at Florence Internazionale Biennale, in Florence, Italy for his work ''Bacon’s Man with the Child and Priest''. Ritu Kumar
Ritu Kumar is an Indian fashion designer. Early life and education The lack of educational opportunities in Amritsar led her to move to Simla for her schooling, where she attended Loreto Convent. She later studied at Lady Irwin College, where she met and married Shashi Kumar, and then went on to accept a scholarship at Briarcliff College in New York, where she studied Art History. On returning to India, she studied museology at the Asutosh Museum of Indian Art, part of the University of Calcutta. Her son is Oscar nominated director, Ashvin Kumar. Career Kumar began her fashion business in Kolkata, using two small tables and hand-block printing techniques. Beginning with bridal wear and evening clothes in the 1960s and 70s, she eventually moved into the international market in the subsequent two decades. Rajesh Pratap Singh
Rajesh Pratap Singh (born 1969) is a noted fashion designer from India, based in New Delhi. Singh originally from Rajasthan, graduated from NIFT, Delhi in 1994, however he was trained with New Delhi–based designer David Abraham for a year, before graduating. He, further went to work with the Italian menswear label, Marzotto for two years. Singh started his own line of men's and women's clothing in 1997 after his experience of twelve years in the fashion industry in India and Italy. JJ Valaya (born 8 October 1967) is an Indian fashion designer and couturier from New Delhi, India. He founded the House of Valaya, a luxury fashion and lifestyle house in 1992, along with his brother TJ Singh. Manish Arora
Manish Arora is an Indian fashion designer based in New Delhi. In early 2011, he was appointed creative director of the womenswear collection of the French fashion house Paco Rabanne, although he left the company in May 2012.
