Farmington Valley
The Farmington Valley is located along the western boundary of Hartford County in Connecticut, bordering Litchfield County immediately to the west. It is defined by the Farmington River, which runs through it. Physiographically, the valley is lowlands and floodplain flanked by the Litchfield Hills on the west (which itself is the northern terminus of the larger Mid-Atlantic Highlands Region) and Talcott Mountain on the east (a section of the more extensive Metacomet Ridge). The term Farmington Valley, as used in the local vernacular, refers primarily to the towns of Farmington, Avon, Simsbury, Canton and Granby. However, when defined by the course of the Farmington River, or by its entire watershed, the term can refer to large areas of land across the north central portion of Connecticut and into southern Massachusetts. Connecticut
Connecticut () is the southernmost state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. The Northwest Hills (also known as the Litchfield Hills or Northwest Highlands) are a geographic region of the U.S. state of Connecticut located in the northwestern corner of the state. It is roughly coterminous with the boundaries of Litchfield County, for which it is named. UConn Health (formerly known as the UConn Health Center) is the branch of the University of Connecticut that oversees clinical care, advanced biomedical research, and academic education in medicine. The main branch is located in Farmington, Connecticut, in the US. Westminster School is a private, coeducational college-preparatory, boarding and day school located in Simsbury, Connecticut accepting around 20% of applicants. The total student population is approximately 400, and includes pupils from 25 US states and 30 countries. Avon ( ) is a town in the Farmington Valley region of Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town had a population of 18,932. History Avon was settled in 1645 and was originally a part of neighboring Farmington, Connecticut, Farmington. In 1750, the parish of Northington was established in the northern part of Farmington, to support a Congregational church more accessible to the local population. Its first pastor was Ebenezer Booge, a graduate of Yale Divinity School who arrived in 1751. Litchfield County has the lowest population density of any county in Connecticut and is the state's largest county by area.
