Farewell Song
''Farewell Song'' is a 1982 collection of nine previously unreleased recordings of Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, the Kozmic Blues Band, and Full Tilt Boogie Band. Tracks include ''Cheap Thrills (Big Brother and the Holding Company album), Cheap Thrills''-era outtakes and live performances; "Misery 'N", "Farewell Song", and "Catch Me Daddy". Production The recordings were enhanced through the use of devices such as the Lexicon (company), Lexicon 224 and the Audio & Design (Recording) Ltd#Scamp Rack, ADR Scamp Rack by producer Elliot Mazer, and the original bass by Peter Albin on "Farewell Song" was replaced with bass work by Mazer. Some members of Big Brother and the Holding Company were unhappy about some of these changes. The original versions can be found on the subsequent compilation ''Janis (1993 album), Janis''. Janis Joplin
Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an American singer and musician. One of the most successful and widely known Rock music, rock stars of her era, she was noted for her powerful mezzo-soprano vocals and "electric" stage presence. In 1967, Joplin rose to fame following an appearance at Monterey Pop Festival, where she was the lead singer of the then little-known San Francisco psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. After releasing two albums with the band, she left Big Brother to continue as a solo artist with her own backing groups, first the #1969–1970: Solo career, Kozmic Blues Band and then the Full Tilt Boogie Band. Tell MAMA (Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks) is a national project which records and measures anti-Muslim incidents in the United Kingdom. It is modelled on the Jewish Community Security Trust (CST) and like the CST it also provides support for victims, working closely with organisations such as Victim Support. The reception of the group by British Muslims is highly mixed, due to the relationship between Tell MAMA and the Jewish CST group (perceived negatively due to its support of Zionism). Tell MAMA was launched on 21 February 2012 by Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government and is co-ordinated by the interfaith organisation Faith Matters. Richard Bell (March 5, 1946 – June 15, 2007) was a Canadian musician best known as the pianist for Janis Joplin and her Full Tilt Boogie Band. He was also a keyboardist with the Band during the 1990s. Early life and career Richard Bell was the son of the Canadian composer and musician Dr. Leslie Bell. Richard Kermode
Richard Kermode (October 5, 1946 – January 16, 1996) was an American keyboardist, known for performing with Janis Joplin, Malo, Santana, and Ray Cepeda. History Richard Kermode was born on October 5, 1946, in Lovell, Wyoming. Kermode grew up in Buffalo, New York, and attended Kenmore West Senior High School. By his teens, he was already a talented organist playing in a jazz trio called Milestones in Niagara Falls, Ontario. In 1969, he moved to San Francisco, where he became a member of Janis Joplin's Kosmic Blues Band, and he performed with them at the Woodstock festival in the same year. After Joplin's death in 1971, he joined the Latin rock band Malo. After leaving Malo in 1972, he became a member of Santana, and he played on their ''Welcome'' album as well as touring with them during their 1972–1973 tour of ''Caravanserai''. "Hi-Heel Sneakers" (often also spelled "High Heel Sneakers") is a blues song written and recorded by Tommy Tucker in 1963. Blues writer Mary Katherine Aldin describes it as an uptempo twelve-bar blues, with "a spare, lilting musical framework", and a strong vocal. The song's rhythmic approach has also been compared to that of Jimmy Reed. "Amazing Grace" is a Christian hymn published in 1779 with words written in 1772 by English Anglican clergyman and poet John Newton (1725–1807). It is an immensely popular hymn, particularly in the United States, where it is used for both religious and secular purposes. Newton wrote the words from personal experience; he grew up without any particular religious conviction, but his life's path was formed by a variety of twists and coincidences that were often put into motion by others' reactions to what they took as his recalcitrant insubordination. Eddie Floyd
Edward Lee Floyd (born June 25, 1937) is an American R&B and soul singer and songwriter, best known for his work on the Stax record label in the 1960s and 1970s, including the No. 1 R&B hit song " Knock on Wood". Biography Floyd was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He founded The Falcons, which also featured Mack Rice. They were forerunners to future Detroit vocal groups such as The Temptations and The Four Tops. Their most successful songs included "You're So Fine" and later, when Wilson Pickett was recruited into the group as the lead singer, "I Found a Love". Steven Lee Cropper (born October 21, 1941), sometimes known as "The Colonel", is an American guitarist, songwriter and record producer. He is the guitarist of the Stax Records house band, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, which backed artists such as Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas and Johnnie Taylor. He also acted as the producer of many of these records. He was later a member of the Blues Brothers band. During his career as musician and composer, Andrew had three platinum albums and two hit singles. His songs have been used in numerous major motion picture soundtracks and documentaries.
