Fantegutten
''Fantegutten'' (The Gypsy) is a Norwegian film from 1932 directed by Leif Sinding. Sinding also wrote the screenplay, which was based on Harald Meltzer's novel of the same name, published posthumously in 1873. Egil Sætren designed the sets. Plot The film opens in a valley on a spring day. A couple is buried in an avalanche, but their son Iver miraculously succeeds in escaping. He is found by the wealthy farmer Sjur Rognved, who lets the boy stay with him. Growing up, Ivar falls in love with the farmer's daughter Ragnhild, who returns his love. One day a group of Gypsies comes to the farm, and a woman in the group, Marja, recognizes Iver as her nephew. When the farmer learns this, he no longer wants Ragnhild to marry Iver because he does not consider "Gypsy blood" pure. Iver is furious about this and takes refuge with the travelers. Marie Hedemark
Marie "Maja" Hedemark (March 24, 1873 – August 8, 1959) was a Norwegian actress. Family Hedemark was the daughter of the teacher Emil Bernhard Olsen (1842–1897) and Severine Mathilde Heidenstrøm. She was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. She married the actor Hans Ingi Hedemark on December 23, 1905. Career Hedemark made her debut at the Fahlstrøm Theater in 1899 under the name ''Marie Heiden'', a name derived from her mother's maiden name. She was associated with that theater until it closed in 1911. She was employed at the Central Theater from 1911 until around 1942. Hedemark made her film debut in 1926 in '' Den nye lensmannen''. In the 1930s she appeared in seven more films, including ''Fantegutten'' (1932), ''Lalla vinner!'' (1932), and '' Bør Børson Jr.'' (1938), which was her last film role. Odd Frogg (October 13, 1901 – February 23, 1934) was a Norwegian actor. Career Frogg attended Frogner School, where his classmates included Johan Borgen. In 1921, the two friends approached Halfdan Christensen, who was manager at the National Theater in Oslo, to be employed as actors in the ensemble. Frogg made a positive impression, and he debuted in the role of the priest's son Benedikt in Nini Roll Anker's ''Kirken'' in the spring of 1921, while Borgen went on to study law. Later, Frogg confirmed his lyrical talent as the young priest Peter in Henrik Ibsen's drama ''The Pretenders'' at the same theater, in the title role as Ambrosius Stub in the Central Theater's production of ''Ambrosius'' by Christian Molbech, and as the young writer Falk in Ibsen's ''Love's Comedy'' at the National Theater in Bergen. Ellen Sinding
Ellen Sinding (born ''Ellen Buttedahl''; April 17, 1899 – April 18, 1980) was a Norwegian actress and dancer. Sinding was born in Haugesund, the daughter of the actor and sculptor Sæbjørn Buttedahl and the actress Clare Petrea Margrethe Benelli (1871–1933). She debuted as an actress in 1922 in the film '' Kjærlighet paa pinde''. Reidar Kaas
Reidar Kaas (July 27, 1881 – May 18, 1952) was a Norwegian opera singer and actor. Career Kaas was a baritone. He took singing lessons with Raimund von zur-Mühlen in London and the tenor Ernesto Colli (1866–1928) in Milan. Kaas performed at La Scala in Milan, the Carlo Felice Theater in Genoa, and opera houses in Poznań, Hamburg, London, and Oslo. Kaas also appeared in film roles. Finn Bernhoft
Finn Hugo Bernhoft (February 6, 1898 – April 27, 1981) was a Norwegian theater and film actor. Bernhoft was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. He debuted in 1917 in Edvard Drabløs's touring theater, and he started working with the Trondheim National Theater that same year. He later played at Chat Noir, the Carl Johan Theater, and the Central Theater, and from 1948 to 1958 he was engaged with the Trøndelag Theater. In addition to many roles in comedies, operettas, and musicals, he won acclaim as Morten Kiil in Henrik Ibsen's '' An Enemy of the People'' and as the riding master in August Strindberg's '' The Father''. Eugen Skjønberg
Conrad Eugen Skjønberg (March 27, 1889 – July 25, 1971) was a Norwegian actor. Eugen Skjønberg was married to the actress Henny Skjønberg. They resided at Ramstad. He was the father of Per Skjønberg, Pål Skjønberg, and Espen Skjønberg, and the grandfather of Hennika Skjønberg, Siv Skjønberg, and Jo Skjønberg, all of whom were actors and actresses. Skjønberg started his career in the banking industry in Kragerø and Skien, but in his twenties he was discovered in the amateur theater by a dance teacher, who recommended him to Alma Fahlstrøm in 1913. Leif Sinding (19 November 1895 – 13 May 1985) was a Norwegian film director and journalist. He worked for the newspapers ''Verdens Gang'', ''Aftenposten'', and ''Morgenbladet''. Among his silent films are ''Himmeluret'' from 1925, based on Gabriel Scott's comedy, and ''Fjeldeventyret'' from 1926. He directed the film ''Bra mennesker'' (1937), based on a play by Oskar Braaten, and the films ''De vergeløse'' (1939) and ''Tante Pose'' (1940), both based on novels by Gabriel Scott. Alfred Jentoft Maurstad (26 July 1896 – 5 September 1967) was a Norwegian actor, movie director and theatre manager. Biography Alfred Jentoft Maurstad was born at Bryggja in Davik (now Vågsøy) in Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. He was the son of Brynnel Maurstad (1859–1943) and Lovise Marie Brølos (1867–1943). Maurstad attended a military academy in Bergen (''Bergenske Brigades Underoffiserskole''). During his teenage years he performed in several concerts in the district of Nordfjord, playing on his Hardanger fiddle. He moved to Kristiania and debuted in 1921 at Det Norske Teatret. Olof Thiel (October 31, 1892 – December 10, 1978) was a Swedish film producer, film production manager, and composer. As a composer, he most often used the pseudonym "Jacques Armand." He also wrote some of the lyrics to his melodies. Family Otto Thiel was the son of Ernest Thiel (1859–1947) and Anna Fredrika Josephson.
