Fantastic Negrito
Xavier Amin Dphrepaulezz (born January 20, 1968), better known by his stage name Fantastic Negrito, is an American singer-songwriter whose music spans blues, R&B, and roots music. His 2016 album ''The Last Days of Oakland'' won a Grammy award for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 59th Grammy Awards. In 2019, his album '' Please Don't Be Dead'' won the same category for the 61st Grammy Awards. His 2020 album, '' Have You Lost Your Mind Yet?'' won Fantastic Negrito his 3rd consecutive Best Contemporary Blues Album Grammy at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. Early life Dphrepaulezz was born in western Massachusetts, the eighth of fifteen children. His father was a deeply religious Somali Muslim who, Dphrepaulezz recalls, had "a lot of rules" for his children. Great Barrington, Massachusetts
Great Barrington is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 7,172 at the 2020 census. ''White Jesus Black Problems'' is the fifth studio album by American musician Fantastic Negrito, released on June 3, 2022, by the musician's own label Storefront Records. Background Fantastic Negrito conceived the concept of the album when he learned that his seventh great-grandmother was a white indentured servant from Scotland, who in turn entered into a common-law marriage with an enslaved African-American man. Many of the album's lyrics deal with slavery in historical times and its effects on modern-day people of color, as well as interracial relationships that were illegal during certain periods of American history. ''Rock n' Load'' described the album's subject matter and lyrics as "an exhilarating ode to the power of family and the enduring resilience of our shared humanity." Tiny Desk Concerts is a video series of live concerts hosted by NPR Music at the desk of ''All Songs Considered'' host Bob Boilen in Washington, D.C. The first Tiny Desk Concert came about in 2008 after Boilen and NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson left South by Southwest frustrated that they couldn't hear the music over the crowd noise. Thompson joked that the musician, folk singer Laura Gibson, should just perform at Boilen's desk. A month later Boilen arranged for her to do just that, making an impromptu recording and posting it online. The name is taken from Boilen's 1970s psychedelic dance band called Tiny Desk Unit.
