Fall River Lake
Fall River Lake is a reservoir in Greenwood County, Kansas, United States. History Construction of the dam was started on May 9, 1946. The embankment closure was completed on August 12, 1948, and the conservation pool was filled on June 9, 1949. The project was completed for full flood control operation in April 1949. Kansas
Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River, which in turn was named after the Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. The tribe's name (natively ') is often said to mean "people of the (south) wind" although this was probably not the term's original meaning. Toronto Lake is a flood control lake in southeast Kansas, primarily in Woodson County. It is located on the Verdigris River about 4 miles southeast of Toronto, Kansas. The lake is maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. History Toronto Lake was authorized in the Flood Control Act of 1941. Construction started on the lake in November 1954 and it was completed in February 1960. In addition to flood control, the lake serves for recreational purposes, to improve water quality, and potentially to supply water. Fall River State Park is a state park in Greenwood County, Kansas USA, southwest of the city of Toronto. Located near the Flint Hills, Fall River State Park is and can be accessed by going along 144 Highway 105. The state park features six different hiking trails including Casner Creek, Turkey Run, Post Oak, Overlook, Bluestem, and Catclaw.
