Falko Götz
Falko Götz (born 26 March 1962) is a German football manager and former player. Playing career Götz began playing football for FC Vorwärts Berlin in 1969. He joined the youth department of BFC Dynamo two years later. However, Götz was not allowed to attend an elite Children and Youth Sports School (KJS), where talents of BFC Dynamo were normally enrolled. The problem was allegedly that he had family members in West Germany and therefore West German affiliation. Sports schools were the basis of the powerful system of physical culture (fitness) and sports education in the USSR and the Eastern Bloc, particularly East Germany. Eastern Bloc Emigration And Defection
After World War II, emigration restrictions were imposed by countries in the Eastern Bloc, which consisted of the Soviet Union and its satellite states in Central and Eastern Europe. Legal emigration was in most cases only possible in order to reunite families or to allow members of minority ethnic groups to return to their homelands. Eastern Bloc governments argued that strict limits to emigration were necessary to prevent a brain drain. The United States and Western European governments argued that they represented a violation of human rights. Despite the restrictions, defections to the West occurred. The East German football champions were the annual winners of the DDR-Oberliga. History The 1948 and 1949 East German Champions were determined in a single elimination tournament of three rounds. A nationwide football league, the DDR-Oberliga, was established for the 1949–50 season. The Oberliga was dissolved after the 1990–91 season. The 1954–55 season was a transitional season and neither was a championship awarded nor were clubs relegated. Due to the transition from a fall-spring to a spring-fall schedule starting with 1956, teams only met each other once from August to December 1955.
